I like shows like this that are different from what you might expect. It kind of reminds me of a more modern ROCKFORD FILES in some ways because the protagonist is not what you would expect.

Profit is without a doubt one of the best television series I have ever seen - probably in my top 5. And every time I re-watch an episode, I catch something I had missed before. Incredible show.

I still need to go pick this up or NetFlix it. I keep forgetting. Does the eigth show leave us in suspense or not? The article sounds like it is only supposed to be an 8-episode long series.

There have been a few series that I wish were longer than they did. At least "GAH" in some way did have a finish with "Vanity, Says the Preacher." Even "Doctor Who" in its first run had some sort of ending... and it allowed for a continuation that way.
Would be interesting to see how "Profit" ended up. Stinks, however, when a show has great potential but gets up and outted because of a couple of week's bad viewing numbers. "Manimal" and "Automan" are similar in that regard. Sure, some of the ideas/effects were cheesy, but I did like watching them.

I was reading more about this today and realized that Jim Profit is Adrian Pasdar. Fans of his will more likely recognize him in the new show HEROES as Nathan Petrelli, the man whose brother thinks he can fly while he is busy trying to win a congressional seat. The more I read about this, the more I want it. However, I would still love to know more about the series finale. Is it a true finale or does it leave a lot of loose ends that make you wonder? Come on Maxwell-FBI, I need your help before I drop the dough on it.

Heroes: GREAT show. And so great to see Pasdar back on in prime time. For another great watch, check out DEXTER on Showtime. Between the 2 of those new shows, I haven't been this excited about television (both network AND cable) in can't even remember how long.
[glow=red,2,900]Dexter. He takes life. Seriously.[/glow]

Are you going to continue refusing to answer my question about PROFIT? You are the only person I know that has ever seen it and I keep waiting on your answer before I join the ranks of PROFIT fans. I want an answer to a very simple question: Does the series sort of tie things up or leave the series wide open?

YES. I AM GOING TO CONTINUE TO REFUSE TO ANSWER YOUR *STUPID* QUESTION. DEAL WITH IT! MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! Actually, I had no idea you had asked that - I must have overlooked your post (one of your 500000+ - MUWAHAHAAHA again - couldn't help it) - so sorry about that. Well, there's only 8 episodes, but the creators DID have an idea that 'this might be it', so sort of yes to your question. They were obviously storylines that were left hanging, but the final scene of the final episode does have a sort of 'complete' feel - and in the commentary on the DVDs, the creators mention how they went out of their way to do that on purpose for the fans. That help at all?

Oh HELL yeah. That show is a THRILL to talk about with fellow fans - there's so much 'depth' in each episode. I'm serious - each ep runs about 45 min or so but you'll feel like you've been watching for 2 hours, and I don't mean that in a bad way - it's just so jam packed with great material and the actors dive into it 100%. The trick will be trying to decide who is your favorite character on the show - they're all so good.

That whole story reminds me so much of 'American Gothic.' Great show cancelled way too soon. Kind of like this other show I've heard of...

Sure thing. Only show I've seen like it recently is Dexter on Showtime. The main character sort of reminds me of Jim Profit.
And if you ever catch Heroes on NBC, you can see Adrian Pasdar (the actor who played Profit) back in prime time (this time on a hit show!) - he hardly looks any different. Glad to see he's got the public's eye this time around.

I may have to order it online and hope that it arrives in one piece. Once I get it though, I will watch it and we can talk about it for days on end I am sure.

I love Profit! What a cool, weird show. Cancelled WAY before its time like so many creative tv shows. Sigh.
I'm not sure how many of you watched Buffy or Angel, but the character Profit was supposed to show up on Angel as a lawyer. That would have been so strange! David Greenwalt was the showrunner for both Profit and Angel. Unfortunately, the actor wasn't available.
I'm a huge Joss Whedon fan and I really like Buffy, Angel and Firefly. Offtopic, I know.

I don't really care for the other ones you mentioned, but I might have had to watch the PROFIT episode of ANGEL had it happened. I love this show! I am even debating showing it to my classes next spring.

I thought I gave my "review" here earlier, after the DVDs finally arrived via NetFlix, but I guess not. It's either in the wrong thread or I changed my mind about voicing my opinion. I didn't like it, and ended up not watching the last few (unaired?) episodes. I get the whole anti-hero "guy you love to hate" thing, but it helps when the people who's lives he's ruining are just as bad or worse, kinda like the Sopranos. Though I haven't seen Dexter yet, at least the people he targets are not only criminals themselves, but also beat the system... With Profit, I just never got that the Gracen people were any worse than any other corporation. Sure, they were cheaters and alcoholics, etc etc, but Profit is just evil. The voiceovers, and his stepmother didn't help much. I like Pasdar in Heroes, though
