Sounds like you had a rough 2019, Mel. *Hugs* Glad you are back on your feet and having some fun with your new job. SHAZAM! was great. Thanks. Really the only thing that hurts now is not getting to go to Memphis this year for the marathon, but I already expected that. It's why I hope to go to Nashville and Memphis next year. (Come to think of it, if I do that I would be eligible for a special medal if you do both of those marathons). Yes, the job has been a lot more fun but there are challenges, but most of them are just the common ones when you take on a new position. The main ones are off the job: having to adjust to the occasional dust storms (more the vacuuming) and the sunlight. Why sunlight? - well, what is seen as 3 p.m. in East Texas for example is the same light as it is at 5 p.m. here. Sunsets will be as late at 9:45 p.m. come summertime. I only know that fact because I lived in West Texas before, but when I've been programmed for 12+ years to the sunlight (mostly as my previous job had a lot of photography outdoors) it's been a bit hard to adjust. For the record, it's still dusk at 8:30 p.m. on a clear day. The only downside/upside to this is I haven't done a lot of arts and crafts in the past few months. I've made a couple of leather tooled bracelets and such with the supplies I had, but one fused glass piece in that time. A lot of the leather tooling however earned me some extra income, at the very least got people interested/learning about the art. It was fun seeing the kids' eyes light up when they got to try their hand at leather stamping. Several of the blanks that I got to keep are their stamps that I worked designs around them. It's quite cool actually. (And for the record - I only got pegged on the hand once with the mallet - rawhide so nothing broken, but it was my fault. She was maybe three at the oldest and I forgot to tell her to wait to hammer the stamp again until I adjusted the stamp. What made it funnier is she had one of the best impressions out there).

The only thing about all this that is annoying is that I have had a LOT of references to the St. Jude Memphis Marathon in the past few weeks. Facebook memories, calls, mailers that registration is open (and interestingly addressed correctly: then again, this could be due to my donation to Mom's fundraising this year). Today, they even called me to let me know registration was open. Had to tell them to please put in a note right now to not call me because I couldn't do the half marathon this year due to the move. That's really been the hardest part: saying I can't do that marathon this year due to my life changing. I'm kinda hoping Mom will hold off bring up my Hawaiian shirts (plural intentional) so I don't get upset/angry again. I guess on the positive I was laid off before I registered - otherwise I may have had to raise my normal minimum for the hospital but not get to run. Usually I will run as a Hero on the bronze level, which is a minimum amount ($600). You don't meet it, you do donate the difference. Not only is there that minimum - and I support the hospital - having to do that would've only made things more painful. Right now I'm starting to save up to go to Nashville's, which is next year March I think. But honestly? - this is probably the only thing that still hurts about this move. Everything else has been a benefit. (By the way - flying for the weekend is not an option: not only 1. is there a chance I could be covering football here still, 2. a risk of bad weather keeping me from going anyway, there's 3. I would've been doing the half marathon and yeah... it would've been a very painful flight back. It was hard enough to ride home with family the 12 hours from Memphis to Houston. )
