Haha, HD, I never thought of it that way. I would be very curious to know why they filmed that particular episode on video, and (correct me if I'm wrong) but they never did it again for any other episode. Maybe it was an experiment, and they weren't pleased with the picture quality, so they decided not to do it again? I guess that would be the most likely "scenario".

I figured because of some of the areas they were filming in, it was easier to film with that as opposed to another type of film. It would be interesting to know though. Maybe the return on investment was too low?

I just reread through the Episode Guide sub-board. Still a lot of great information there, Greenguy! Thanks! I have pages of notes I've jotted down over the past three years that need to be added to the guide.

I just re-read the ep. guide recently too. It's great. Your knowledge of TGAH is truly encyclopedic, GG. I learned a lot of things by reading that guide! Never realized, for example, that The Lost Diablo was filmed (for some mysterious reason) on videotape. But now when I watched it again recently, I noticed the sub-par picture quality at times. Thanks, but even I'm not perfect, and have made an error. I need to make a correction in the guide on The Lost Diablo. I've spoke to Christopher Nelson who worked on the series. As he remembers, that episode WAS shot on film. However, the film was transferred to videotape for editing. It was an experiment done by Cannell to curb production costs. He said that Cannell wasn't happy with the finished "look" and went back to the standard of shooting and editing on film. Cannell was again ahead of his time, as transferring film to tape for editing became standard practice for many productions by the late 80's.

Indeed, can't wait! GG, thanks for the new info about The Lost Diablo. That solves the mystery, then! I'm glad that Cannell didn't pursue that experiment any further, because the picture quality is noticeably inferior in that episode. Something that unfortunately almost always take me right out of the story: the flying sequences. That footage hasn't aged well. Have you guys noticed how much lower the picture quality is in those scenes where Ralph is flying? I imagine the only way to fix that would be to thoroughly remaster the episodes in high definition and digitally repair the footage. However, that is an expensive process which is rarely used for older TV shows. This has been done, though, for some mainstream classics such as the original Star Trek, for Star Trek: The Next Generation, and for the original Twilight Zone. The result is quite amazing, but it's a painstaking process which can take several months, if not years.

Or on its 100th anniversary, when all of us are dead, they can do it for cheaper in the future and pump out DVDs or whatever they use by then.

Hehehe, indeed, HD. However, I'm just nitpicking. I just appreciate the fact that the show is even on DVD at all. That's the main thing.
