Wow! now that I would see ... well, heck I would see it anyway no matter who would be in it. But seriously, he is the # 1 choice ... unless you guys can think of another actor that can pull of the one and only Mr H.

We will just have to see. I am sure there are great actors out there that could do it, known or unknown. I don't think Owen Wilson would work, but I don't think the other guy would work either.

What about Adam Sandler or .... dare I say ... Jack Black

They need someone younger. Around the same age as Katt was when he started.

What about Adam Sandler or .... dare I say ... Jack Black Sandler, if he were younger... maybe. I've seen him take more serious turns such as "Spanglish" that worked well. Jack Black ... no, only because some would associate him with Nacho Libre, which wouldn't be good. Not many people I know of who could pull it off. I know one fellow from the musical "TEXAS" who might work, but depends on his age. He played Calvin Armstrong (the lead), who has quite a few ideals that Ralph has and did a good job.

I don't think Sandler or Jack Black are the right approach even though I think both could handle the role just fine once they knew the context. They might have even watched it when younger so they might be fans too.
If he didn't look so "macho" I guess is the word, Mark Valley would work. He is also getting a little old for the part, but could probably do it. If nothing else, I think he could work as Bill Maxwell if Richard Dean Anderson was busy.

Personally, I don't think any of those actors suggested for Ralph would work. An actor with very subtle nuances to his performance is needed, not someone who seems too self-aware or smarmy. I still believe Simon Pegg would totally nail it. He's a brilliant actor & can do comedy & heartstring-pulling drama equally well. And I agree with HD that Richard Dean Anderson would be great as Maxwell. I really don't know who'd be good as Pam, though. Feel the love. dolfyn. ;D

I wouldn't like the idea of Owen Wilson. In most of the recent stuff I've seen of him, he says every line like there's some hidden in-joke that only he gets. Possible Pam candidates (in my opinion): Zooey Deschanel ("Tin Man") Maggie Gyllenhaal (though she might be too old now...like Owen Wilson. Actually in "Dark Knight" she reminded me more of Lynda Carter.) Megan Fox (no relation): "Transformers" (not sure if she would be a perfect Pam, though she would probably only be cast for her current "star" status) Of course, as in the case of "Dukes of Hazzard", studios probably wouldn't be too concerned with physical resemblances (i.e. Jessica Simpson) but whomever would be the most marketable. Hopefully with SJC actually being involved, he would cast whom he thought was best and not the hot topic of the month. Except for Bruce Campbell as Maxwell, I would prefer unknowns for the other mains. ;D

[rant, out of the blue] If they give the role to Will Ferrell I'm not watching the movie! [/rant] Though I wouldn't mind being proven wrong. If the Owen Wilson thing wasn't old, I'd have given it a chance, but... no, I'd prefer neither. An unknown would be preferable. And I still vote Ed O'Neill as Bill Maxwell. I swear they'd better not go with the "hot topic" for Pam. I like videofox's suggestion of Zooey Deschanel (the only name I recognize). She's a possibility.

And I agree with casting some relative unknowns instead of the flavor of the month actors that are overexposed by the entertainment media. I think I've seen Zooey Deschanel in a few roles. Does she star in that show called 'Bones' on Fox? Maggie Gyllenhaal reminds me too much of Olive Oyl. Maybe SJC will have Connie play Pam Davidson's mother in the film. And Bruce Campbell is an interesting choice for the Maxwell role. He's a great addition to the cast of the show 'Burn Notice' on USA.

I still think Bruce Campbell would be very good as Carlisle over Bill.

I still think Bruce Campbell would be very good as Carlisle over Bill. I may have mentioned this before, but if Phil Hartman were still alive, he'd be my first pick for Carlisle.

I like the idea of Zooey Deschanel too for the role of Pam (her sister is the lead on "Bones." ) She can play the smart, quick wit and beautiful woman, such as playing Trillian on "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." She also was very good in "Tin Man," so I could see her do this. The issue would be who is cast as Ralph and Bill though, because if she's not careful, she has a tendency to get one note at times. Ralph is a hard one for me, even though I do have choices as to whom could play the role. Maxwell for me would be either RDA or Bruce Campbell.

The perfect Bill Maxwell .... you all have to agree on this choice ... ready for it .... wait for it ... wait for it .... Billy Bob Thornton. This guy is old enough and has that smart aliky like ways. How pe'od would he be that he didn;t get the suit. I can see ol Billy Bob there down on his luck at the FBI ... picture bad santa now.....and here comes Ralph and the little green guys into his life. Well? what do you all think?

Billy Bob Thornton...? No. Something about the guy just rubs me the wrong way... Perhaps it's because in nearly every movie he's in, he seems to be playing himself.

Not too fond of the idea of Billy Bob Thornton either. Something about him just doesn't seem right for Bill. I'd still lean toward RDA or Campbell, but even Tommy Lee Jones would work.
