Is this going to be a big theatrical release? If not, and it's one of those awful Disney movies, we, the non-pubescent set, will be screwed. They will get only actors and actresses that are either in Teen Beat magazine, or ones that are household names. Bruce Campbell will fit into that sect, though. (And hearts to him and his magnificent chin.) What about Ryan Reynolds as Ralph? I just don't want a straight comedy. The original was far more human than that.

There is a big theatrical release in the works, but right now I don't know who has the script except SJC. Do think; however, Disney no longer has the rights to do the film.

Personally, I would rather see it go straight to video if they do make it. That way, people don't think it is the REAL GAH.

That's what they've been doing with recent "Stargate SG-1" movies. I support straight to video myself for just the same reason, HD. After all, we all know there is no greater than a 50:50 chance it will be able to match the nuances that Culp, Katt and crew masterfully created, not because of the script, which SJC may write superbly, but because of actors artistic interpretation of their roles. Especially if they only have 1.5 hours to "get" our beloved characters.
And we all know there are many more poor movie interpretations of TV shows than great ones.

Yup. It worked okay for the SG-1 movies since it was announced that this is how the series is going on. This many years later, a GAH movie should go straight to DVD so that no one confuses the two. ;D

This many years later, a GAH movie should go straight to DVD so that no one confuses the two. ;D Not sure if people still wouldn't be confused between the original episodes and a direct to DVD "Greatest American Hero" movie with a new cast. Lately, I have noticed people do get "TGAH 2008" (Collazo's endeavor) confused with the official news and production in the works. I have found blogs that have done such - touting the first five minutes of the fan-created series as what Katt, et. al. are doing. What they seem to miss; however, is that Katt has said animated shorts - not live action. ******************** To my knowledge too, a movie has to be at least 90 minutes long, but it can be longer. I'd see "GAH" going on about two hours if done properly, but not longer. Ninety minutes would feel rushed regardless of caliber of talent. IMHO, I think the odds are slightly better this movie will do better given that SJC has a hand in it. Most of the remakes I've seen lately do not have the someone who was an active part of the original show's production in it, such as producer or writer. That's why more have been poorer than excellent IMHO. I will admit it will be hard, however, to match the original cast's chemistry.

I have a feeling that the original cast might work with the noobies to teach them the nuances of the classic characters. Robert Culp said he might be bitter at the new Bill, but I think that he'd mentor who ever was chosen. Hell, he might even help casting.

I still like on the Bill idea it being either RDA or Bruce Campbell (my personal favorite). Both are well-known by the younger audiences, and both could play the role well.

The big question will be: what does Robert Culp think? (hearts to Mr Culp...)

The big question will be: what does Robert Culp think? (hearts to Mr Culp...) I don't know - Katt has mentioned Owen Wilson, Connie mentioned Angelina Jolie as their dream cast for their roles. Culp is a wild card here on his favorites - I have no ideas who he'd suggest - if he would suggest someone. Some prefer to stay mum on whom they'd choose.

What would making it a TV movie do (with later issue on DVD)? I saw the new Knight Rider movie when it aired in the Spring (& am still chomping at the bit for the new series coming this fall). The only thing is now, I can't tell if they're releasing the movie to DVD or not. It was on, then off, then... given away free with a purchase of certain TV DVD sets at FYE & Suncoast...? tvshowsondvd.com/news/Knight-Rider-An_Icon_Reborn/10469What the heck?! I'm so confused...

I am not sure how it would work. We might get another special release of TGAH.
I know that KNIGHT RIDER was supposed to be released...and then they wanted to wait until they had a season under their belt. Maybe they are doing a mix of those options now.

They must cast an unknown actor. Give youngsters a chance.

I don't like Owen Wilson much. It's just a rumour. I still like the idea of a relative unknown to play Ralph - but someone who understands that the show was not strictly humor or drama - but a balance of both. Too many of the younger actors I see nowadays tend to go one way or the other.

The whole Owen Wilson thing is my fault - I was the first to pitch him when I got the job to write the script at Disney and everyone in the room liked the idea - Owen was far less exposed at the time and I believe putting a comedian in the role would be instant death to what GAH was all about. I do know the studio (whichever one picks this up) will not do this movie without a known name in the lead role. They want this to be a 150m dollar bill when they make this - or at least that was the way Cannell felt back at Disney and when you make a movie with that kind of bill the studio needs something to relax them. I personally think they should bring Hero back to TV, there's plenty going on in the world to keep scripts coming for the next few years.

Wow, MW,
A 150 billion dollar script? That's pretty serious! I wouldn't be surprised if Owen showed up, given that Cannell wants a younger crowd film which would entail more humor and less graphic violence.
Are you still involved on the script/production?

Yes, they should definitely use an unknown to play the part.

The biggest question is... who is Owen Wilson?
Said that: as far as they don't pick Jim Carrey, everything is O.K. in my book.
