I mean,
In 2005 ANCHOR BAY released a stunning remastering for 'The Greatest American Hero' DVD edition in terms of picture quality, it was a restoration.
Do they need a new restoration of the film elements for a future BLU-RAY edition of the same title, or is it just a matter of STORED DATA CAPABILITY, being the DVD a much compressed format?

I see no need to release it on Blu-Ray unless they are going to add something to the release that makes it worthwhile to have it as opposed to having the DVD versions already out.

Derek,
I know, we don't need it... but I was talking about a technical issue, out of curiosity.

That's what a guy who works for BCI Eclipse told me about 'The Greatest American Hero' DVD issue and a following Blu-Ray release:
"What Blu-Ray edition? I can't imagine it will ever be out on Blu-Ray.
While it had a pretty nice standard definition print (good contrast, good colors, a little soft, some episodes are dirtier than others), they would have to go back to the original film negatives and do all new high definition transfers for every episode.
Then they would have to go back in and recomposite all the flying scenes, because those effects were all done on videotape.
Also the show would still be 4x3 and it has a very flat 2.0 track. I'm not even sure if the elements exist to create a new audio track that takes advantage of Blu-Ray's technology - the existing audio track barely takes advantage of Standard DVD technology.
Plus the market for TV on Blu-Ray is small, and the market for OLDER TV on Blu-Ray is VERY small. There is no way Anchor Bay would sell enough copies to come close to recouping the huge expense of producing the Blu-Rays.

So yes, they would need to start over from scratch. Stored data capability has nothing to do with it. The current DVD elements are not in High Definition.
The only thing you'd get by putting the existing materials on Blu-Ray is way fewer discs, but no increase in quality at all."

Derek, I know, we don't need it... but I was talking about a technical issue, out of curiosity. I know that, but you asked and that was my opinion. Even out of curiousity, no, I don't think we need it nor do I think we will get it.

After all, we got a terrific DVD release. The classic series has been preserved. So I think you're right.
Never say never, anyway.

I don't believe GAH will ever be released on Blu-Ray. Most of the older tv series will never make it to that format because it would be too time-consuming and costly to remaster each episode in high definition, and frankly (as I'm sure you guys realize) the fan-base for GAH is relatively small.
The only older tv series that I can see as having a large enough following to make it worthwhile releasing it on Blu-ray would be "Star Trek" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation".

Maybe old TV series on Blu-Ray format would suck. They are NOT made to be high definition.
I think we got a terrific treatment from Anchor Bay... that's all we really need.

Who knows. Maybe Anchor Bay ALREADY did a HD treatment for the whole series... but they just will release it in the future to come.
On the other hand, I don't think the film stock is "viable" to make a "proper" HD edition. After all, this is just a (very old) TV series.

Just imagine a special edition Blu-Ray re-release of GAH, complete with all the original music AND 're-done' special effects like they did for the original Star Trek episodes. [glow=red,2,300]Oh baby...[/glow]

After all, we got a terrific DVD release. The classic series has been preserved. So I think you're right. Never say never, anyway. Not so fast .... I would have to say that the DVD release was about 85% terrific, for that last 15%, they would have to add back the original music. In any TV or Film, everybody know that the score and or music is half the experience and in some cases tells the story. Put it this way, what would Jaws, Star Wars, ET, Indiana Jones without the scoring and music by John Williams. If they were to have subtitled a different score, those movies would have sucked. No granted, GAH series had a lot of different episodes and was not all about the music, but the key ones are the ones that are lost to us now. Take Quantum Leap, they had a lot of terrific tracks, if they were to have said no on a lot of those songs, that would hurt some of the stories lines. Anywho, that is my 2 cents worth. I would love it if Anchor Bay would release and Ultimate Edition / Blu-Ray with all the original music and commentary by William Katt and the gang. But I am sure this will not happen. (I hope it does...but not likely)

I think that if an edition was released with more extras and the original music, I might pick it up then. That is one reason I did not get the Collector's Tin. It only added the crappy cape and the instruction book.
I am not sure it needs to be Blu-Ray, but I would probably buy it if it was.

I bought 2 of them and have 1 unopened set just sitting around ... any takers?
