If you read my comment again, you will see that I mention fanfiction in my post. Yes, but I wanted to clarify my POV what I thought was done for the TV show purposes and what people have done as far as fanfiction. Of course we don't know if Ralph heard it either way, so we don't know if it was done for the show or done too to have react weird when Bill's voice was at least an octave higher. Sorry if it read otherwise though - I tend to be a bit confusing.

This is possibly a silly thought or premise here. I'm sure that GAH has inspired things of current pop culture and the like, but did anyone ever think that just maybe it inspired Pokemon creatures? Take for instance The Beast Was I the only one who back then wondered what this creature's form looked like? All we got were eyes and a mouth. I just now realized though, that what I always imagined was something close to this. The Gengar from Pokemon. It's got the red eyes, that oddly shaped mouth and what I envisioned pointy ears. Silly, isn't it??

Silly, isn't it?? Nah, not silly - only thing about Gengar - at least the TV cartoon - he tends to be a bit of a coward and not an attacker. (Mind you, the ghost Pokemon were among my top 5 favorites, with Squirtle and Charmander as well). But, it does make you wonder - if I recall correctly, "Pokemon" is made in Japan, and the Japanese release of "The Greatest American Hero" was rather popular. So, maybe one or two people who watched the show were inspired to create Gengar.

Yes, that sounds silly to me. ;D
I thought it always looked more like a dog.

Yes, that sounds silly to me. ;D I thought it always looked more like a dog. You know, thinking about your post and watching the ep again, I wonder if SJC had Cerberus of Greek mythology in mind when he created the Beast. He guarded the river Styx and would keep those who were alive from crossing the river into Hades and vice versa. Now, this beast as far as we see has only one head, but given how fast Ralph was attacked each go, maybe there might've been more to the beast than we thought.

I think it's a lot like Cerberus, good observation.

Well, next up is this one.
This is an awesome episode! One of the (several) best, IMHO. It's a compellingly spooky story. Perhaps spookiest of all is the fact that the voice does seem like it is indeed coming from Maxwell. His lipsynching is perfect. The blue eyes make him look even more otherwordly.
I only wish that the scenes in the other dimension could've been more elaborate and lavish. Too bad they didn't have the budget needed to create a truly interesting other dimension. I wish he would've done some flying in that other realm, too.

Robert Culp does do a great job; it's one of those times when an actor really just has to go for it and not worry about how they might look. And yes I was surprised at how decent the lip synching was. That was one thing I expected to be more clunky but it was very effective.
Also liked Ralph's line to the ghost at the end, "You have no life, you're dead!" I mean usually in haunted house stories or documentaries you hear about "Oh, we must help the person move on to the next life! We must figure out what's troubling them!" But no, Ralph's basically just like "You're dead. Get over it." LOL

I think they did the dubbing of Shelia's voice after they recorded the filming. That said, Culp had to work to get mannerisms of a different person - and female nonetheless, right in order for that to work. I wouldn't be surprised if she worked with Culp before they filmed the scenes in order to get it right.
And Ralph's line of "You have no life Shelia - you're dead, and you're going to stay that way" is one of the best he ever said in the series. It's also the most truthful.
I personally liked the room being as simple as it was because it was supposed to fool someone into thinking that it's a room sealed up by the bricks and she needed rescuing (this case Ralph). , As far as Ralph not flying - Shelia says that the suit doesn't work in the other dimension. It did at least allow for us to see that there are dangers even WITH the suit because it allows him to see her and enter the dimension, the suit's powers are lost when he enters.
And it was admittedly neat to see how dangerous that beast was when you see the welts on Ralph's back and shoulders after being beaten up by the beast.

I freakin' LOVE this episode. It's probably in my Top 3.
Culp (as usual) rocks and makes his scenes 110% spooky and Katt is great as well.
I wish they had made more episodes like this...

I wish they had made more episodes like this... Same here! I'm probably in the minority, in that I really like the episodes that are more science-fiction and / or fantasy oriented. Any episode that features the greenguys, monsters, Andre The Giant, other dimensions, etc. ;D Also, all episodes that focus on a new suit-power are also among my favorites.

Oh definitely, again a villian much more interesting than your average rouge politican, hehe. I think they did the dubbing of Shelia's voice after they recorded the filming. Yeah that would make sense; it's the best way of getting accuracy. Yeah that part was pretty creepy to think of, you realize just how risky Ralph's work is, which is easy to forget with the suit.

Yep I agree that this episode was outstanding. It stretched the concept of the suit into new territory without it getting silly.
Oddly enough many who complain about the series point to this episode and comment that this is an example of the show having no idea where it wanted to go.
I see it more as "thinking out of the box" and still staying true to what the show was. Plus stories like this allow one to see the series premise was made for more than just "cookie cutter" episodes.

Yes, I agree, Greenguy. It showed that this series transcended any specific "mold".

I agree, they did think out of the box in this episode. The usual thing was pretty much Bill and Ralph solving a crime. But in this episode Bill actually becomes part of the storyline and allows Ralph to get more emotionally involved.

Watching this on SyFy right now... surprised??? Looks like they did some editing. I seem to remember Ralph doing CPR on Bill was a bit longer than shown here. Also, when Bill is being taken over by Sheila while he's on the phone with Ralph. They cut the last bit where he's struggling hard with it, which kinda takes away from it. Though, of course we know there had to be edits. We knew that at the last marathon when the opening theme was sped up like it was and is during this marathon.

Yeah the edits are pretty obvious, lol. Though I'll admit, with the episodes I wasn't as familiar with, the edits didn't bother me. It was when I knew what had been edited that it was like "Oh man, why? " Lol

BitB is my favorite episode, which I've stated on here MANY MANY times.. lol Really, though.. They shouldn't have edited it where Bill was struggling with Sheila while on the phone with Ralph, editing it took away from the story.

They basically strip them down to the bare minimum, only showing what's absolutely necessary. Still I know from experience that they could have been much worse.
