This set is incredible - just picked it up the other day after looking for it (with Scott's help - THANK YOU, SCOTT!) for what seemed like forever.
I haven't played the DVDs yet, but supposedly it contains the original audio track - we shall see...

Where did you buy it from? I'm thinking about getting one, as well.

UPDATE: Apparently the set is region-free, as it's played in any player I've tried it in. Also, it DOES contain the original audio track (on track 2 - track 1 is Spanish), meaning all the originally used music is UNALTERED - oh yeah...

Great pics and information! To whom did they give the lunchboxes? Thanks TG! As far as I know, Anchor Bay used the lunchboxes as promotional items around the time of the 3rd seasons DVD release. I was sent mine because of the assistance I provided for the 3rd season set. Back in the heyday of video rentals they would have sent those to video stores and distributors etc. I'm not sure who gets their hands on promo items now.

For anyone who has these, can you tell if they have the *original* audio (before the sound effects changes of about 10 years ago)?

Yep, according to Maxwell-FBI here (who is a very die-hard fan of collecting the various prints of the show), this one DOES[/color] have the original music. Meaning - "Eve of Destruction" is in "Operation: Spoilsport" "Classical Gas" (I'm guessing) is uncut. "Rocket Man" in the pilot Etc. Of course, I can be wrong and Frank is a bit off here, but this is what I'm getting from the comments.

I don't mean just the music. A bunch of other sound effects were changed, along with some rejiggering of the opening credit sequences. Most of these changes are minor (such as the sound of gunfire). The one that really stands out is the removal of many of the horn sounds from "The Shock Will Kill You", which kind of changes the tone of the episode, I think.
These changes are even on the Japanese DVD releases, which do have the original music at least. I figure they are probably on the Spanish DVD releases as well, but was curious if anyone could confirm that.

The one that really stands out is the removal of many of the horn sounds from "The Shock Will Kill You", which kind of changes the tone of the episode, I think. There wasn't any editing out of "gunfire" in the opening credit sequence, but as far as I know, there have been issue with the car sound effects even in the replaying of "Shock Will Kill You" even in syndication (i.e. no sound effects at all). That's not a DVD error that I know of. The third season credits were also different than the other two seasons (intentionally), and I'm not sure if any of us get why Don Cervantes' credit appearance only appears for "It's all downhill from there" (ironically the ONE episode he's credited in on the collection he's NOT in). Don't know if that's changed either. As far as I know, all the sound effects have remained the same. I'm sorry for the confusion on my part - I thought you were indeed referring to the songs themselves, which is usually the question/gripes we get on the board regarding the DVD collection of the shows. (BTW, I did want to mention this, a couple of the driving scenes in "Shock" if you listen CLOSELY you'll hear the droning of the horn as they're speeding down the road (non-close ups though - just the car itself going down the road).

For anyone who has these, can you tell if they have the *original* audio (before the sound effects changes of about 10 years ago)? 1robc, I don't own the set, but my guess is that the sound effects are indeed the changed versions. I first encountered the "new" sound effects versions in 98 or 99 from the KDOC syndicated broadcasts out of Los Angeles. As you stated gunshots, footsteps, etc were changed or "enhanced" along with the removal of the car horn from The Shock Will Kill You. Even the guest star, and end credits of Plague have a different font used. I can only guess something happened to the original finished master of the episode and Cannell had to go back and use the creditless scenes to remaster the episode and use a similar font already available as opposed to creating the Hero font again for one episode (does any of that make sense). All prints from that point on, which include Canadian broadcasts, Retro Television Network, ME TV/ME TOO, SyFy have all been the version with altered sound effects. At this point I'm curious if the originals still even exist inside Cannell Productions. I know if one has the original ABC broadcasts, 80's syndication versions, the 90's run on FX, or the 16mm film prints used for Armed Forces Broadcasts you will find the original sounds.

I bought one of these Spanish releases on ebay today. Should be here in about three weeks. I do have a region free dvd player, but am hoping my set is region free like Maxwell FBI's.
