What happened to the Greatest American Heroes bright future?
About 2 years ago I was surprised to hear that the show I loved watching as a young kid and adored as a teenager was coming back in a big way.Comics were going to come out.I asked my local comic book store to order them for me.I heard there was a movie in the works and animated flash shorts.I can't find a hyde or hair of the animated flash shorts, the comics stopped at the retelling of the pilot as asked by Stephen Cannel to retell it.And the movies not showing any info on the web.Has everything been cancelled?I know that this show didn't just have one hero and at the end of the final episode I felt that stronger than any episode that they were both the greatest American heroes. It made me ask if it was truely the wrong one that the title was given to but the last episode left me without a shadow of a doubt. It was Bill Maxwell.I felt truelly sad when I learned of his deathI only knew him as an actor on the original outer limits, everybody loves raymond, and my favorite show.

Welcome to the boards Knight Rider, and I hope this will help out:
1. A series of three comics, covering the pilot, were indeed produced by Catastrophic Comics. I have a feeling though that due to production costs, and being dropped from the production company for it, they were unable to continue beyond the original three. There has been a fourth produced by another group, but I haven't read it, so I can't tell you if it's good or not.
2. There had never been discussion of a movie being greenlighted for sure, but there have been attempts to bring it back in that form. Given how "The A-Team" did, there is a possibility that SJC will have a chance to bring "GAH" to the big screen. But, like a lot of fans here, I'm of the notion that if they don't have the right cast or script for the movie (and what plots I've heard aired in recent scuttlebutt would do the show injustice) I'd rather them wait.
3. The animated shorts I believe probably will not come to fruition now with Culp passing UNLESS one of his sons can mimic his voice and mannerisms. Even then, I'm not sure that it'd be the same for "GAH." What's sadder is when I watch the sketch in "Robot Chicken" where Culp did a cameo as Bill helping the nerd who got the suit, voice wise he hadn't changed much and it'd been a near seamless transistion.
4. The StayTunedTV.net version - where there are two wearers of the suit - has also faced some downturns. The cost of the CGI was a lot and they're an independent group.
Also, it wasn't directly produced by SJC - but they producers had to get his permission. Frank Zanca and company also had to promise SJC and the owner of the rights to do a movie they would NOT sell the show. And, I haven't heard or read much on the cast of that production (Allen Rueckert, Brittany Ross, Morgan Snyder, etc.), on their site (well, take that back Rueckert still helps produce shows for STTV), so it also may not see a second season.
5. "TGAH 2008" - another fan series - pretty much didn't air properly when it was promised, and people didn't bother watching it. It then just disappeared, and we've had some speculation on why (mostly that the person made it appear he was trying to sell the show, but he does not have the rights to the show or characters).
I wouldn't say that "GAH" is totally down and out - it's a little gem of a show that people remember but are wanting a return of the show in any form to be done right. We had great promise with the comics, but unfortunately the timing was horrible and we ended up in the recession. The rest? - a lot of factors that have put it on the backburner.
But, I am also the optimist and think that it will return again, but if it's going to end up in a form similar to "The Greatest American Heroine" - the 1986 spinoff attempt, I'd much rather them not bring the show back to the screen - small or large scale.
