Open air hallways and satellite buildings for schools. Most of them are now all together in one large building. We frequently see Ralph and Bill walking from one building at Whitney to another one and there's some sort of garden area and the like. Ohhh good one, wouldn't have thought of that! Lol yup, poor car phone. It's like the Eight Track, a piece of technology that just didn't go far enough and got left behind.

Watching The Two-Hundred-Mile-An-Hour Fastball on the SyFy Channel marathon and noticed another somewhat dated moment. Ralph is attacked by the bad guys and warned to not play for the team. Ralph then hurries to get the jammies and chase after them.
"Snaps.. SNAPS!! Haven't you guys heard of Velcro?!?"
Back then, I think Velcro had just come out and became a somewhat fad. Not so much today, it's used but there isn't such a big deal about it.

And yeah that's true you don't see velcro too much anymore. I remember when they forced us to stop using it in Kindergarden, lol.

OK, I know tech is always dated, however, it's very rare now to find printing paper that is continuous, green/white stripped and has holes on either side that feed into the printer. There were a few cases of this type of printing (if anything I think it's in "GAHeroine").
I admit I may be getting the second "Captain America" TV movie that featured Connie Sellecca in a role with the show (this is used), but still... it is quite dated there.

Speaking of velcro, it indeed is still around. My $100 shoes that I bought for work have velcro instead of shoe laces. Prior to buying those about 3 months ago, it had been probably more than 20 years since I last had shoes with velcro!

There one humorous "Dated" thing that has come back - Madras Jackets ("Don't Mess Around with Jim.") Well, that and large eyed aviator sunglasses. I have a pair that are similar to Bill's, 'cept he wouldn't be caught with ornate pink frames and pink lenses.

Which moments in the show do you find to be the most dated? To me, an episode that always comes to mind is "Space Rangers", in which Pam is in awe about the "wonders" of microwave cooking! ;D There are actually two or three scenes in that episode in which Pam is praising the awesome "magic" of what was back then, I suppose, a state-of-the art appliance----the microwave oven. LOL I think the most notable one is the one you mention. While a good number of people still have home phones and whatnot, the microwave cooking is the odd one. The clothing, the haircuts, etc. is not all that surprising when you think about it. Times change and clothing is dependent on the person.

Very true, HoudiniDerek.
Good point about clothing and haircuts. Those eventually come back full circle in a "revival" or other. Even bellbottoms made a slight comeback in the late 90's, if I'm not mistaken.

Exactly. And a lot of 80's type fashions are coming back too. I think that of them all, the microwave situation dates the show the most.

Even grunge is actually making a comeback! All those bands that I listened to constantly in the 90's-----Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots-----have all reunited, and are making new music. (and Pearl Jam never stopped doing it, of course).
So it's just a matter of time before everyone starts wearing plaid shirts and Converse sneakers again. ;D

That would be pretty cool.
CHUCK helped with the nerd chic coming in too with Converse. ;D

"CHUCK"? Do you mean Chuck Taylor, the basketball star of the 1920s? (He did indeed popularize Converse sneakers back then, and was the spokesperson for the company)

I wouldn't mind if Doc Martens came back in a big way; I used to wear those all the time, lol.

Honestly, I wore Converse because I saw Epstein wearing them when Kotter was on Nick at Nite, lol.

Even bellbottoms made a slight comeback in the late 90's, if I'm not mistaken. True bell bottoms (snug to knees then flared out knees to feet) late '90s early 2000's. Flared jeans or boot cut - narrowing to knees but not snug then flaring out slightly - still around. (Hell, I'm just glad that the little bows or zippers at the ankles hasn't returned. Pencil thin legs made them hard to put on or off.

Oh, also VCRs were new around that time - we saw a couple of stories that featured some sort of video recording stuff and playback right onto the TV in private homes. (or at least private filming/recording of information - kinda like the surveillance cameras).

Oh yeah certainly when Bill pulled a Ferris Bueller in "Beast in the Black," using recording equipment to make any intruders to his home think they've been caught, lol.
