I was just thinking about a strange character that we saw I believe two or three times during the series: I mean that creature on board the greenguy's ship, who appears to be his helper or butler. What the hell is that thing, anyway? Is it a robot? (It certainly moves quite mechanically) Or is it a more primitive species from the greenguys' planet, which they use as slaves? Or is it perhaps a species from some other world that the greenguys conquered (or as they say on Earth, "colonized") long ago? That little fellow seems to accompany the greenguy everywhere, and to function as a sort of go-between-----a "liaison"------between the greenguy and Ralph and bill. For example, the greenguy sends that character to bring the ear-bud "translator" to Bill and Ralph at one point, as if giving it to them himself would be beneath such a superior being as he is. Thoughts?

Thoughts? Unless he's mentioned in the script by name - and someone who has read "Divorce" or "Vanity" could say it, we don't know. He's never given a name or really any specific duties than what we see. He just seems a lot like a butler or liason because he seems a bit less unnerving than the greenguys, as seen by Ralph's reaction to the critter versus the skeptical look with the greenguy. He could also be a go-fer type person who can do anything and everything for the greenguys including driving the ship around and making sure everyone who is beamed up is OK. Of course, he could just be a regular greenguy who shrinks himself to this size whenever Bill comes to the ship so he can take his "little green guy" comments much more literally.

That critter reminded me of Orko from Masters of the Universe. Even had a similar squeaky voice. They seemed to me to be a sub-class from their home planet, evidenced by green skin. Not slaves, but servants perhaps. When Greenguy handed the critter the earpiece instead of Bill, I figured it was because the greenguys are resistant to physical touch, but then he walks with Bill with a hand on his arm, so out the window went that theory. A nice glimpse into the greenguys' culture that was never expanded on.

I agree on the more servant role - they certainly weren't slaves because the aliens didn't have any sort of negative reaction to each other I felt. Maybe too because this greenguy could be some sort of head of what's left of their world (on the ship) and the little greenguy is just his helper, confidante and the like. Kinda like a majordomo.

I only have a 1st draft script of DVS, and the scenes aboard the spaceship are quite a bit different than what was filmed. The little robot is NOT featured in my version, however in the Culp written Vanity script he calls him the little critter.
In addition to that, while the greenguy or greenguys and girl in Heroine are never named on screen Culp refers to him as THE VOYAGER in Vanity, Says The Preacher. Plus Babs Greyhosky calls the main greenguy HIS EMINENCE in the Heroine script.
I know this really does NOT answer the original question about the robot..or "DROID" as Culp mentions in the Vanity script, but I thought you guys might be interested in the bits of trivia I could add.

So he is intended to be a robot, then? If Culp described it as a DROID, then that seems to indicate as much. Thanks! Indeed some interesting bits of trivia.

they certainly weren't slaves because the aliens didn't have any sort of negative reaction to each other I felt. True! And another possibility that I forgot to mention, is that this creature might actually be a pet------like the greenguy's equivalent of a poodle or Cocker Spaniel . And he's been trained to do simple tasks, such as bringing various objects to the greenguys' "guests".

Nice that the green guys have a "pets are welcome" office policy, lol.

Pet theory is good... but I love how the pets run the main machinery then as we see the little green guy punch buttons to let Bill out of the waiting area, then later Ralph and Bill.

LOL ;D Good point, MelMac! I guess the pet theory needs to be scratched off the list of possibilities, then. That creature is too intelligent to be the equivalent of one of our "Earth" pets. Although chimps and dolphins are pretty smart..... ;D

Great trivia, GG! And the little green guy is MelMac. Though I have to admit I forgot what my ranking was when I had five stars. It was a nym from "Wizards and Warlocks" though.

I do not think the little green guy is a pet. That is one well-trained pet if that is the case. I would go more for robot myself. If not a robot, I would say possibly a creature from another world that was brought aboard and made a life on the spaceship.

Yeah, the robot theory is the one I endorse most as well.

It just makes sense as the little green guy doesn't talk and actually looks like he might have been constructed or built.
