We've already seen two movies based on Stephen J Cannell's creations—"The A Team" and "21 Jump Street"—so when are they going to come out with "The Greatest American Hero" movie?!! Huh?!!!!

Frankly after seeing that trailer for "21" I think it would be merciful if they didn't touch GAH, lol.

Yeah, but look what a good job they did on "The A Team"! Couldn't they give "The Greatest American Hero" the same kind of respect when they make that movie?

Actually, the A-TEAM was not that great either. I think they should leave well enough alone on GAH since they have already ruined so many others.

If by "not that great" you mean it's not an Academy Award winning drama, then I'll go along with you on that. But then, "The A Team" was never meant to be any kind of an award winning drama—it was meant to be an over the top action flick with lots of explosions and car chases and gunplay and narrow escapes, and by golly, it delivers on that! Personally, I'd love to see The "Greatest American Hero" made as an ultra cheesy, over the top action buddy flick with superpowers! Sure, some may say it'll be so bad it actually burns, but those things that make a "bad" movie "burn" are exactly the things that make it more entertaining—at least for me.

If it was made like the original series, I have no problem with that. Some elements they had correctly, but most of it, including the actors playing the characters fell flat.

Well, the "21 Jump Street" movie has now been released in theaters, and the few reviews that I read about it in our local newspapers were raving about it. One reviewer gave it four stars out of five!

Prometheus, speaking as someone who has done reviews for newspapers - it's hard to judge based on them because many have trouble being balanced (both ways). From what I've seen of the trailers; however, I'd be concerned about this take on the series because it does look vastly different from SJC's vision of the series. I also had heard (most likely rumors) that actors such as Johnny Depp who were a part of the original series weren't happy with it either.
As far as "Greatest American Hero" it's a HUGE gamble. Fan series wise, I've seen people do a good remake of it (StayTunedTV's take) and I've seen people who have taken the series and shown absolutely NO knowlege of it and try to reinvent it (the failed TGAH2008 version which we never got to see the full episode to make a complete assessment.)
It's also a show that really benefits most from having relative unknowns in the roles of Ralph and Pam - Though I could see Anne Hathaway as Pam Davidson and Bruce Campbell as Bill (especially now seeing him in "Burn Notice").
Script is also a huge factor - it has to balance comedy and drama well, and currently the trend is to go one extreme or the other in regard to American Films. It's why some TV to film series, such as "Maverick" (focused on the comedic aspects of the show - the heavier part of the series - but still had the serious points when needed) worked while others such as the "Wild Wild West" didn't (took way too much of the comedy, thinking that Artemus had to dress in drag to get a laugh and were way too implasuble, such as the half man that was Arliss Loveless. Seriously Ross Martin - the original Artemus, and Michael Dunn - Miguelito Loveless, who was a dwarf, had to be rolling in their graves).
IF, and I do stress IF they can find decent actors for all three parts and work a script that balances the comedy and drama associated with the suit - and yes, keep the greenguys to a dull roar (They're important, but they don't interfere directly with the trio save very rare situations), it could work. I just don't think right now that it would work with the current trend of TV to film movies.

I'm up for any new 'version' of GAH if only because it would renew interest in the original series and maybe (somehow? someway?) unearth some gems from back in the day that we've never seen before or had official release. Trailers? Deleted scenes? Remastered video? Original music? OK, now I'm getting myself excited. Forget I said anything...

Maxwell, I have been thinking about this more and I agree. Even if it was not what we expected or wanted, it is still nice to have some sort of resurgence in interest. The same thing happened with GET SMART when they released the movie. It was not as good as the original and was different in a lot of ways, but it tried to play to the heart of the series, which I liked. Plus, a two hour movie is a lot harder to make true to a series that aired a lot of episodes. I hope they do come out with a GAH script and movie.
