On another forum I frequent, a member noted that they had just watched a TV show they loved when they were a kid. They said that watching it again after all those years really made the memory go kaput. From bad acting to bad storylines to bad everything, he noted that some things should remain in our memories only because we can just ruin them by watching them now.
Ironically, one of the other members noted that TGAH was one that had stood the test of time.
What TV shows/movies did you love as a kid, but hate now? What do you think about nostalgia and not going back to relive the past?

I must be a lucky one - all the shows I've watched after missing for years stood the test of time. "MASK," "Thunderbirds," "GAH," "Wild Wild West," "The Love Boat," nothing different for me.
Do think they've changed a bit - I've come to appreciate more of certain characters I overlooked when I was younger (ex. Dusty Hayes and Alex Sector in MASK when I pretty much wanted to watch episodes that had Bruce Sato as one of the mission workers), but the content itself has stood up.
Also have grown to love other shows I remembered the theme but not the actual stories - case in point "Arthur Hailey's Hotel" that Connie Sellecca starred in. The opening theme and title cards were iconic, but I didn't really remember watching the show much. "Dynasty" - in small quantities - the same.

I think some shows do not hold up well due to the technology available today that was not back then. However, I think most of the shows I used to watch hold up overall. Some that don't were ones that were far out there then, like Gilligan's Island.

I find the less advanced special effects in older TV shows quite charming, myself.
I agree that TGAH has aged very gracefully. It's still a lot of fun to watch, even probably for younger generations. Some of the flying sequences don't look great, but if the powers-that-be decided to invest a decent amount of money to remaster the series in HD and digitally "tweak" some of those old special effects, it could look quite awesome. I mean, just look at how nice the old Star Trek looks now that they gave it a high definition makeover. It looks as good as any current show, eventhough it's over 50 years old!

I'm always surprised by how well the A-TEAM stands up as well as MacGyver. Yes, they were far-fetched in a number of scenarios, but they did really well in telling stories and I think that is what keeps them so relevant.

I think both versions they also work well in that they have realistic situations where the things they do and use could actually happen. You can see real life rescues of people stopping crime or having to rescue someone kidnapped overseas, etc.

I've started introducing my boys to GET SMART. That is one that hasn't aged that well because there isn't a Cold War and nothing that goofy existed (I hope) in our government back then.
