In the special features for Season 1, SJC mentions that ABC wanted the series to become a Monster of the Week show. SJC also notes that Katt and Culp were very vocal about it, thinking the changes were not what they signed on for.
Obviously, THE SHOCK WILL KILL YOU is a great example of that mindset. However, what are others that you would consider falling into this vein? Which ones do you think caused the actors to be upset?
Personally, I think they probably meant the Caribbean episodes as well as SHOCK. Do you think it extended to ones like THE BEAST IN THE BLACK? Are there others that should be considered?
If only those four, that's not a bad average for something the network wanted to see constantly...

All those ones you mentioned, plus I guess that third season episode with Andre The Giant ("Heaven Is In Your Genes"). His character only appears at the very end, and though he's not wearing any special makeup or monster costume, he is intended to be seen as "monstrous"--- mainly because of his height.

I was never certain if this one was included or not. Just like I'm not sure on the Caribbean ones or BEAST. I would like some more insight on those from fellow fans.

I believe The Shock Will Kill You is the one that Katt had trouble with. At least it's implied that is the episode in a TV Guide article on Katt at the time. I believe he's quoted as saying something like " I went to Steve, and he explained why he did it, and I understood but I don't think I would allow myself to do another one like this again".
I would need to dig out the issue to get the exact quote.

Hard to say...I just know it's the only one that I ever heard about

If it was just the one, I would have to say that's not a bad percentage...1/43.

There was a youtube video posted a while ago that showed Katt taking questions from the audience at a convention and he states that 'The Beast in the Black' is one of his favorite GAH episodes.

Beast in the Black was more a horror / ghost story then a monster of the week. I actually think its quite good too.
This is the sort of thing that ruined Sliders in the third season and what caused one of the lead actors to quit.
They turned it from a great show exploring alternate histories and alternate lifestyles to intelligent tornados, or living fire creatures or a number of other nonsense ideas.
