TGAH premiered on ABC, and with huge promotion by the network the pilot scored big numbers. We keep chugging along here, thank you everyone for sticking around. Even if you just read and never post, the numbers still show your visits. For everyone that does post, thanks for helping keep the forum alive. In 1998 when I started my website about TGAH, I never dreamed I would still be with it 20 years later.
When I met Stephen J. Cannell years ago, I said I hoped I wasn't stepping on his copyright toes when I used short clips of the show on my website. He said "absolutely not, it's you and other fans who have kept the show alive. Please keep doing what your doing, and thank you."
Maybe we can plan far enough ahead, and do something special for the series 40th Anniversary.

It's crazy that it was that long ago. I discovered it during its run on FX, but it's one of my favorites. I've introduced my kids to parts of it, but not the full thing yet. I'm down for something in two years. Let us know the plan, GG.

I was also there from the very beginning in March of 1981 and still vividly remember watching the final broadcast on February 3rd, 1983. After a month or so went by and no new GAH episodes aired, I asked my mom (because when you're a little kid mom's know everything) why GAH wasn't on anymore. Her cavalier answer went something like, "I don't know, maybe they're not making it anymore." I was so devastated, but just a few months later, the show started running in syndication on three different cable networks. That really helped dull the pain.

It was nice that it was being broadcast on the national level again, even if the channel was not on a ton of cable systems at the time. I was lucky that our local cable company actually had it when they started broadcasting. Many times it was YEARS after a channel made it's debut before our crappy cable service added it.

I was older and in high school, I knew the writing was on the wall. That still didn't help matters though when ABC finally dropped the hammer. When the show started in syndication, our local independent station picked it up. I was also able to watch it on cable from WGN.

Wow, how time flies!
But the show has achieved immortality through its cult status. It still holds up quite well in 2019. It has aged well.
