I am hurt by the rampant violence prevalent here towards the greatest person in the world: Me. Has anything new come out about this move, guru Lauren? Well, look on the plus side, all I ever try is to dump a bucket of water on you (but Ralph either takes it away from me or gets soaked instead. )

Yes, you are very uncoordinated...never dumping water on me...my poor stunt double though. Very funny, HD, but I did give you fodder for a couple of great screencaps. (Unfortunately, it also seems I give away subtle clues to what I have in store for the game thread. Then again, I'm frozen for two moves right now... I think the computers are out for revenge right now, and their target, a 5'7" Texan... )

The more I read of this movie the more I like it. Jerome Bixby wrote some great stuff. Anyway I desided to update this thread.... From what I read people can't talk enough about the movie. It has won numerous awards at the various Film festivals were it was screened. Such as RIFF and CCIFF. Katts role is really good. and he is mentioned in some of the reviews. here are two links to this film both have the trailer as well as new pictures and blogs. The Official movie site link is already posted here but the site has been updated since. www.myspace.com/manfromearthwww.manfromearth.com/And it also seems Anchor Bay is the distributer for the film. And can now be preordered via Amazon.. Which I am going to do closer to the release date, November is only 2 months away www.amazon.com/Man-Earth-Ws-Smith/dp/B000UYX4Q8 the release date by the way is Nov 13. 2007

Hey, I'm not even a Katt fan and Man From Earth looks really intriguing. I would definitely like to see it. The storyline is very intriguing. Katt has two other movies coming out soon, too: Beautiful Loser and Room and Board.

I happened upon this the other day, but have yet to do it because where I found this out was about an hour's drive from home (I was on a small road trip ) and decided to be on the safe side*. If you're interested in renting "Man From Earth," you can rent it from the $1 rental kiosks at McDonald's. Though they have several independent movies listed in the search folder, I found it interesting and cool that "Man From Earth" was listed as a featured on the kiosk itself. * Reason I didn't get it - I wasn't sure if you have to return them to the same place you rent them, and the place is a bit far away to drive back just to drop off a video. Plan on renting it though in the next day or two.

I was able to put it in my Blockbuster Queue, woo hoo! "Very Long Wait"? D'oh! Oh, well. Also checked on The Almost Guys while I was at it; still unavailable.

I'm going to look at our McDonald's tonight and see if it's available here. If so, I might rent it out tonight or tomorrow. That all depends on how late I get home from this event I have to attend tonight. Odds here... probably will be sold out for the interim (Sci-Fi's big around here)

I don't understand. After all the great reviews, Katt's movie went straight to video? Why is that? Anyone know? Seems like a standard release would have made sense.

Mona Unfortunately, it depends on the market. Some are direct to DVD, others go to theater, it depends on many factors. One thing against it is that it is an independent film group, and while some make it to the theaters, not all do. I'm of the opinion, based on what I've seen so far, this one probably should've had a theater release - however large or small it may be. I had read that Sci-Fi Channel at one point plans on running the movie as well. The fact that it is easy to rent at places that are mainstream, i.e. McDonald's, also shows that while it went to DVD, there's a buzz to it that will help it out. Personally, I wish more of the fantasy stuff like this went to the theaters over stuff that is highly controversial, i.e. Michael Moore's films, etc. People need to dream and be entertained - not be given lessons or spout political messages, however subtle.

That question was asked at the Q&A He doesn't know why. My case just a best guess. But, at least there are people interested in renting it like "Gamers" and such. Except it's late here, I'd rent it tonight from McDonald's and watch it. Might do that tomorrow after I get home from the game...

Thanks for the You Tube interviews, MsB. I actually had no interest in this until I heard him talk about it...

I did watch this a couple of weeks ago and overall I thought it was good. The commentary between Billingsly and the director is worth listening to, as it's a bit wild and fun. The movie itself fits more in the realm of "The Twilight Zone" and "12 Angry Men." Every actor and actress did a very good job, and Katt did very well as the anthropologist with a mid-life crisis. He has a motorcycle, that gosh-awful long hair with ponytail, and a young college student who you can tell they're at least flirting - though given that the poor girl accidentally flashes her bare bottom right in front of the camera standing up (hip-hugger jeans), you can imply deeper into it. It was fun seeing all of them interact in the movie from start to finish, and it does draw you in from the get go. Watching it, Katt almost relishes playing the antagonist, frustrated person listening to what he feels is a crazy story. I really liked his comment after John "recants" his story and says no, I'm not crazy - Art (Katt): "I almost wish you were." He seems to also be the only one who doesn't change from the beginning, as it appears John's story didn't affect him. The plot itself is interesting, but I was disappointed in one aspect they used. They had John make a claim he was a very important religious figure, and one that brought a lot of controversy to the movie. There were other figures in the Bible too that would've fit the man's claim but not have been as controversial - Elijah (who was swept away into heaven in a chariot), many figures from Genesis (as most lived several centuries before dying), and even one of the 12 disciples. Regardless of anyone's beliefs, it was a subject that could've been handled differently and yet still continue a link from John being a primitive to present day without aging. Despite that, the rest of the story fit well into the realm of sci-fi.

I enjoyed it. It was defiantly better than AVH. I only watch 1 scene in AVH.

Found this out earlier today, and wanted to share it with others who might be interested. Redbox had this movie available for rent when it first came out. Now, in the kiosks that sell used DVDs, you can purchase "Man From Earth" for $7. Did that today, because it's a good - if slightly controversial - movie. The commentary I did listen to with John Billingsly and the director was hilarious and quite interesting to listen to.
