To date, this is STILL the only review from a major DVD-related site that went out of their way not only to mention how annoyed they were with the missing music from season one (Rocket Man, Help Me Rhonda...), they even bring up how concerned they are about the 'upcoming' season TWO release, and how much they hope 'Eve Of Destruction' remains intact. Sadly, it was not meant to be, but I still appreciate them mentioning it... <sigh> (Sorry, I will be quiet)

It was a good review...I appreciated it too. I even liked their MacGyver review...they mention some of the same qualms about both of them that I have.

I wonder why Digital Bits never reviewed either season two OR three of GAH. I would have loved to hear their 'take' on what they thought of those, especially season two.

Email them and find out why. Maybe they were too heart-broken after finding HEROINE in the First Season.

I like how the review said Cannell didn't really have a familiarity with the genre and sort of unwittingly took a Spider-Man like approach to Ralph Hinkley. Cannell even seemed (I don't know for sure) to misunderstand the nature of most superheroes, wanting "the powers" to come from the costume.
This is what I have always thought too, that Stephen J. Cannell's misunderstanding and unfamiliarity greatly helped out, and launched the best superhero TV show ever created. i.e., TGAH.

I think it helped for sure. Especially wanting the powers in the suit. Had he known more about comic books...maybe Ralph would have been bitten by a radioactive teenager and became a better teacher.

Sometimes the best TV shows or movies can be created by people that are kinda irreverent about certain types of material, or have no clear background in it. They are more interested in telling great stories with great dialogue, that just happen to be about superheroes or other fantastical charcacters.

I think that shows in a lot of his TV shows...he probably knew little about Vietnam or being a mercenary, yet look how well the A-Team did.

Well in that case I believe the guy actually does do some research into what he is writing. He has done enough field research about cops, police lingo, FBI buzz words, and SWAT techniques that could be used as a springboard into figuring out how military types would talk that could be passed off as believable...and doing some research into what went on in Vietnam.
That was the great thing about The Greatest American Hero, it was written and created by a guy who specialized in cop shows, so GAH had a realness unto itself that other superhero shows can't boast.

True. He did enter another genre and then recreate it. It WAS well done, but few of his shows were NOT well done.

It was a good review...I appreciated it too. I even liked their MacGyver review...they mention some of the same qualms about both of them that I have. WE should say that poor MacGyver can only dream to get such a terrific DVD treatment... because the company totally screw it up! The MacGyver DVD sets are indecent... the worst digital transfer/mastering ever seen in my life. Thanks God, Anchor Bay did an excellent job with 'GAH'.

I liked the seven seasons of MACGYVER but I am sad that the movies are not done separately.
