Huzzah!
When it arrives, will you tell us if it's worth it for people who already have the complete series...?
...and if that cape is cheesey...?
Then again, cheesey can be good... or it can be bad.
Believe me. I know cheese.

If it is the same cape as one I have seen on eBay several times (described as a promotional tie-in at conventions), it is probably made of plastic like a child's Halloween costume cape used to be when I was a kid, with string ties and a giant GAH title and logo on the back. I don't believe it's intended for costuming or meant to be accurate...just a cool little extra. :-)
I plan to get the set myself anyway...just to check out the instruction book! I don't think I'll have it in time for Halloween though, but even if I did, I couldn't be Ralph Hinckley and carry an instruction book! (Unless I'm "costuming" as the five minutes he actually held on to it!)

I wonder if it will be involved or not. The book we saw in DIVORCE looked huge and complex, even though we only saw a couple of pages. What do you think they have put into the instruction book...or is it the same thing we got as an extra in Season 3 just inside the little mini binder that Ralph had in the pilot and DIVORCE?

The books were designed differently. In the case of the first one, which was designed like a recipe book (dividers for different chapters) they did it quickly and simply as it was just going to fall out of the box. Only thing that was the same was the glowing backbone to the book.
The second one had glowing and such and was actually designed to be more elaborate because it was going to be used in "Divorce," but little was actually used, and I think the fancy glowing (to show what the reader needed to see) wasn't used. I always felt the second one was a lot like the Hitchhiker's Guide the Galaxy... the one that Ford and Arthur use in the TV series and movie. Both had animated pictures and glowing text.
If I had a hunch, this one will be a little more like the first one. If they did the second one, it'd be like the covers to the actual DVDs (six buttons and the viewscreen) where you can push a button and they glow. Just a thought.

I thought I read on amazon or tvshowsondvd.com it was going to be $70 dollars. Deepdiscount has it for $59 instead of $30 more... That would be $80 or $90.. Seeing the price, I'm pondering about getting it now from deepdiscount. Worth having for the instruction book and possible autograph.

Well, when I get a good job and if I decide to get the tin, I might go to deepdiscount too or amazon. I like the Best Buy near here, but I don't think I'd get that lucky (then again, the first season of the restart of Doctor Who was originally priced at $119, and now it's available for $79, so who knows?)

Regarding the 'cape', it appears to be the exact same one that's been offered on eBay a few times. However, if so, keep in mind that it is a NICE cape, made of a silk like material - rather sharp - I know - I have one. I hope they're including the same quality one along with the DVD Collector's Tin! It'd be cool if everyone had a chance to own one!

Hey Maxwell,
If you would be so kind, please post pictures of your instruction book sometime after your collector's tin set arrives. I'd like to think they actually put some effort into the design of the book rather than having it be a cheap made in China gratuitous addition to get GAH fans to spend more of their hard earned cash. I'd definitely buy all three seasons again in this set if I knew that the original music would be intact and the instruction book was something out of the ordinary.

I'll have to admit, seeing the lowered price on deepdiscount. I ordered the set. I figured it's worth it in the long run, a neat collectors tin, a cape, the instruction book and a possible WK autograph. Now to wait the 5 to 10 days for shipping when the 3rd gets here.

The lowered price on deepdiscountdvd.com is now up to $78.00. You snooze, you looze, I guess.

I just got a confirmation from deepdiscountdvd that the GAH Collectors Tin DVD Series shipped today. So I should be expecting it between the 10th and the 15th. Now to figure out what to do with my other set.

Pretty neat little set and the instruction boook is a near identical replica, save the three plane glass and data stick on the side - but it's a lot less than I paid for the original prop.
And yeah -- I'm back for a quick visit.

Hey, Mortimer! WELCOME BACK! Yeah, if you check eBay, I've seen them for sale / auction for as low as $49.99 - just watch out for the shipping charges - some are a tad high, some are ridiculous.

OK I just ran out and bought my set from Best Buy. I normally don't buy expensive sets like these, but hey it's GAH. I got ripped off in one context, I paid more then then the $78.99 that I've seen listed before, but I didn't care. I felt like I had to have it. When you consider how great the instruction book is, any of these prices is actually a great deal. I remember prop makers would quote prices close to or over $1000 in days past for an instruction book. And really lets be honest, the instruction book is the BIG selling point of this set. I have two questions if anyone can answer them. 1. So who at Cannell Productions or Anchor Bay pushed for this set and pushed for a replica instruction book? I certainly don't remember a fan ralley for this. 2. Fess up, I know at least ONE person out there will try to intentionally lose their instruction book. -scenario-

Well the instruction book is AMAZINGLY like the one from the TV series. I am blown away by it. It even has working lights if you turn a switch on the back into the "on" position. And for me, the instruction book was the big selling point. They might as well have called this "The Instruction Book Set", and oh yeah the DVDs with the altered music is in there. The DVDs appear to be the same ones that were previously released, on this set I finally got all those little booklet inserts. My season 2 and 3 box sets were previously missing those. There is also one of those little GAH logo t-shirt iron on trinkets that were so popular in the 70s and early 80s. My set doesn't have Katt's autograph, my number is 5699 out of 20,000. I suppose if I pre-ordered much in advance I would have gotten one of the autographed ones. I have not opened the bag that the cape came in. I'm not really jazzed up about that, it's good to have because it's a piece of merchandise regarding GAH. But it has a cheesy look to it, IMHO. I wish they simply gave us the cape from the series, instead of the logo and series name stamped on the back. The instruction book is AWESOME!!! (have I already said that?) It's something from my childhood that I have always wanted. I used to try to make instruction books as a child in the 80s, and now I finally have one. I am absolutely delighted. As expensive as this set is, it has so many goodies in it that I really think it's worth it. -scenario-

if I could only figure out what this Cosmic Responding stuff means...
Interesting how the suits powers seem mainly divided under Cosmic Responding and Interfase Laser Forms. For instance we know what the Holographic Reception is. But everything else falls under the other two.
