From what I've read in other posts . . . they don't. The dialogue is the same, but a different song plays. So . . . people seeing the show for the first time will be thoroughly confused.

Yeah, they just cut the announcer off before he can say "Joey Scarbury singing The Eve Of Destruction", and replace it with some lame ass music that sound like it should be played in an elevator. Then they LEAVE in Ralph's like REFERRING to Eve Of Destruction (Good Lord) - and later cut the announcer off again when the song plays for the second time, playing the same lame replacement song again.

I don't know if I'll get flamed for this, but I sought out an alternative to the official DVD sets. Apparently, they've been made from TV master reels and are commercial free and unedited. We'll see when I actually get them, but if Cannell and Co. ever release a version similar to the Japanese version I will be first in line to get those. Don't these comapnies realize that if you give the people what they want they WILL buy it even if it costs a little more?!

Hey, more power to ya. You wouldn't be looking for an 'alternative' to the USA DVDs if they had been released PROPERLY. In my letter mailed to Cannell, I specifically mentioned how it was my hope that one of the things releasing the DVDs would accomplish would be to squash people selling bootleg or unauthorized copies but, now that it's clear people can not get the show 100% they way it was originally aired, that unfortunately the practice would probably continue.
Oh, and I have received no reply at all from Cannell or any of his people. (sigh)

I don't know if I'll get flamed for this, but I sought out an alternative to the official DVD sets. are you kidding. cannell gave you no choice. you cannot be a true fan of the show and except the official hacks....sadly, i will buy the official releases to support more gah product. but i to will NOW be buying bootlegs. thanks connell for giving your fan base the finger. next he will release a new set with cgi fx added. lucas style.

I having that argument with myself. I want the shows, in their original composition, and not ruined, so I'll probably buy them that way, but at the same time, I want to support the "official" effort. I'm just not sure I'll want to spend the money on the official releases, unless I hear they've added more cast interviews to the third season. Even then, it would have to be more stuff with the Culp, Katt, Selleca, and Paré, and include Faye Grant this time, for me to bother. The behind-the-scenes guys won't be a big enough draw for me.

I hate to buy bootleg copies as well (and I just did) but Cannell gave me no choice. I would rather spend my hard earned money on the full product rather than on DVDs that do not have the original music. Cannell really did a dis-service to us. He was good enough to release the show to us but only gave us half of what we wanted.

My 2 cents.... Lets not get all snotty about it... ONE we finally have our favorite show on permenant DVD discs and we can watch it any darn time we please TWO the transfer and sound are top notch so, two out of three (three being the music) aint bad considering other DVDs available. THREE why not just get EVE OF DESTRUCTION from someplace and when that moment comes on, turn the sound down on the TV and crank up the (REAL) music!!!!!!! again, just a thought, but its a kind of solution to the probelm.

For what it's worth, every time that friggin' new 'Cannell' promo comes up with him and his grey hair sitting at that typewriter, I flick the screen off. I know, very mature... ;D

A buddy of mine says Cannell looks like a gay magician. WOW. Funny (and true!). Here's a thought - if only Stephen Geyer had written Eve Of Destruction... Cannell and co. would have 'owned enough of the rights' to the song to LEAVE IT THE HELL ALONE. (sorry... I'll be quiet... shhhhhh...)

BTW, does Cannell own any other clothes besides the ones on his back. When was the last time you saw him do an interview, book signing, public appearence, or whatever wearing anything other than that black blazer and black shirt.
I have a picture of me and him at a book signing he did here in Jersey in 1999, and everytime he comes on TV I look at that picture on the wall, with him in that same damn black blazer and black shirt and I'm like "Dude, don't you have anything else to wear"?

LOL, when I met him last year...he wore those same damn clothes too. And I have wondered the same thing about him and his clothes. He's always wearing the standard black blazer, black shirt (sometimes he wears a white or tan turtle neck), big cowboy looking belt, and boots. He'll tweak his clothes a bit, but otherwise he keeps that general same "look" wherever he goes. It's actually a very cliched "I'm a famous novelist" or big shot Hollywood producer from the '70s look, so I don't understand why he insists on going with that. All he's missing is that pipe he used to smoke to totally complete the look. Imagine if a regular person tried to walk around wearing those Cannell clothes, we could never get away with that. And in my opinion, even Cannell just barely gets away with it and not looking silly. -scenario-

Like someone must've said to him once, "Hey, Steve, that looks really good on you".
And he was like, "It does? Well, then, I'll just wear this from now on".

Did anyone else notice they mention "Eve of Destruction" on the triva booklet that came with season 2 and didn't put it in the show? Kind of a slap in the face to the fans I think.

^Ralph even says in the episode: "the song of the Eve of Destruction was dedicated to RALPH".
Its like the song still haunts the episode with Ralphs line of actually naming "Eve of Destruction" remaining in the episode.
