I don't watch much TV, but its great that two of my favorites are back-to-back. I'm thinking of even buying a Monk bobblehead off their website to sit on my desk at work--a mental health clinic. A crossover with Monk and Psyche would be hilarious. Great shows like those two make me think that USA would be a good home for a new GAH series. And if Monk were to guest-star, I could see him insisting that the hero take four steps instead of three to fly just to make it even.

I have only ever seen MONK, but I hear good things about PSYCHE. I have also heard that USA should have picked up RAINES from NBC and coupled it with those other two shows.

Monk is great; great characters all around. You can CARE for Monk, Stottlemeyer (one of the most decent men on TV), and the rest. Psyche is more goofy and relies on stupid skits and witty dialogue instead of characterization--I can't get into myself for that reason.
However, in one of the two Psyche episodes I managed to watch all the way through, a somewhat hysterical woman was in the police building yelling that one of the policemen, who looks quite amazingly like Mr. Bean in real life, had taken her purse from her. Hearing a frenetic "Mr. Bean has stolen my purse!!" emanating into the hallway from the investigation room was, I have to admit, hilarious.

Yeah I agree, "Raines" belongs there on USA. I also wish they or FX had picked up "The Book of Daniel" also...that show got the shaft and didn't deserve it. I had no problem at all with that one; I'm sure quite a few preachers/pastors/priests have conversations with God/Jesus in a similar manner. Some people believed that was supposed to be the "real" Jesus but I didn't see it that way. Besides, where else could you hear Jesus Christ say, "Yikes!" "Psych" may not be as characteristically deep as Monk, but I love it for the one-liners. A part of me wishes I could come up with that stuff that fast. Although I would try not to be as annoying about it.

OMG! WTF! BBQ!
I really really really think you should turn that into a little fanfic. Even just 500-600 words or so. Something! It has to be written, and I hate to steal it from you!
FUNNY![/tt][/size]

By the way, I forgot to mention how disturbed I am that this was the first mention of this story I had ever heard of, and from a fellow mod, no less. Do we have to ask about specific stories for you people to share the love? This is why there is a Fan Fiction Index (not just for our own stories!) Just in case, let me be blunt: If ANYONE knows about ANY G.A.H. related fan fiction, please let us know about it. Thanks! Back to the movie gossip...

Sounds like MortimerWest's story as far as plot, and even there it is not accurate based on the summary he's given us. The characters of Ralph and Bill though would be wrong because Ralph is not "a high school history teacher in Tempe, Arizona, a bachelor who hasn't yet found the right girl." A. he teaches English and Special Ed. B. he is from Los Angeles, and C. he does have a girlfriend - Pam Davidson. Also, "He is a good, decent, likeable guy who is selected by aliens to defend the Earth against Harvey Lundy, a remarkably dislikeable high school teacher who is the representative of a group of intergalactic strip-miners. But he doesn't have to fight Lundy alone - he's got a superhero suit that gives him super powers." If this was the plot... they'd be missing the important part of "GAH" - Real life situations in an absurd situation (i.e. Ralph in the suit). Plus, again they rehash something that was from the first comments, i.e. "Stephen Herek." This one also removes that SJC is part of the production. Third, this is NOT an official site quoting the material (it's a blog), nor does it name where they got their source that this filming is officially happening. There is only one truth - there was a casting call for "TGAH," but Collazo has said himself that he went through the casting lists and put out a call for actors to search for his characters for his endeavor. IMHO, I think they're basing this information on that and possibly reading the "TGAH 2008" board's countdown to July 4, thinking that July is a start date for filming and not an airing date. Finally, there's already been blogs created based on this information: www.cinemablend.com/new/The-Greatest-American-Hero-Becomes-A-Movie-7673.htmland www.movieweb.com/news/11/26211.phpAnd both only cite Moviehole as the source of the official announcement, no official sources. Personally, again until I get it from an official Web site or source, not any of these blogs (where any Tom, Rick or Harry can post whatever they want to believe), I am taking it with a grain of salt. To those who blog and do e-stories... please do the same, because just scuttlebutt you find on the Internet is just that... scuttlebutt. It's not official until it comes from an official source (SJC himself, Variety, etc.), which I have yet to see in any of these "announcements." I want to make it clear - I want to see it come back as a movie or TV series, but I'm tired of all these rumors started by one blog when you can't vouch for the veracity of this announcement to begin with.

I have to agree with Mel here. To me it sounds more like SUPERMAN where you have A bad guy you are fighting. Don't get me wrong: I think GAH could have had a couple of these like old comic heroes did where you had a returning enemy over time; but I don't think that would bode well if it was always a Lex Luther you were confronting.

Agreed Mel, except I personally do NOT want to see GAH come back.
Why? Why? WHY?
You cannot reproduce it. So why try to cash in on it?
Plus, come on guys... Tempe, Arizona? What the h3ll is important about Tempe?
The most action you'd get filming it in Tempe would be the weekends that Bill would visit Mona...
I always thought having it in L.A. was a stretch. But at least it's one of the biggest cities in the country.
Honestly, how many spies wind up in Tempe? How many times are they going to be facing suit class problems there?
D.C.? Sure. L.A.? Sure. N.Y.? Sure. I'd even believe Chicago or Seattle. You know, spies breaking into Microsoft headquarters...
But Tempe?
Why? For the FRIGGIN desert? Please.
Personally, I would prefer to see a book series come out based in L.A., based on the original team. More scenarios, but you won't have any of this stupid ridiculous garbage about "what material is best for the suit" or "should Ralph's hair be blond or red....?" or whatever.
My thumbs down. All around.

I have to agree. That is why I think a new series would be best that was similar to but not just like GAH. You can't recreate that vein, but you could build upon it in my mind. Otherwise, I think it should stay as is...not even a book series.

*steps out into another thread and actually joins in on the discussion* Ouch.. The light is blinding, but it's warm! I'm coming out of my GIS hole for a while. Anyways, I think we all agree that we want an official word on this. As for Tempe, Arizona and the dislikeable high school teacher. I can see Tempe being a starting location for maybe the start of the movie. He gets the suit, does some heroic stuff and then they find out the teacher has a larger base or group working in LA and THEN switch locations. As for the dislikeable teacher, that would be related to the main character (being the school) instead of doing the normal bad guy with some big company doing wrong. Of course it's not always the right way of doing things, having the bad guy being related to the situation or cause/effect of the plot continuation. For instance the Batman movie that came out in the late 80s. There been some discussion on how people didn't like that the Joker was created by Batman and likewise. Who knows, really. I do think I would enjoy this one if it is possibly true and gets produced.

I think Mona started this Tempe rumor, just on the off chance Robert Culp would come and investigate.
On the other hand, I have already begun packing, and have called a few realtors in Arizona...

I would have no problem with a new series that gave the suit to a whole new team. Plus, there should be NO connection to Ralph or Bill or anything from the original. Just like Ralph and Bill were never given any info on JJ Beck.
If they find out about them, great. If not, fine.
I don't like this idea of connecting back to the original team. Why should they? Are the writers so unimaginative that they can't think up new scenarios? New characters?
I say a whole new team. Maybe a cameo by Katt, Selleca, or Culp could fit in that way. But why base it around them? I would think the Green Guys would have a long list of potential candidates that have no connection to the original team.
Of course, if it's a new team, there would have to be a new catch. Instead of losing the instruction book, maybe the team actually loses the cape. Or the boots. Or the belt where some of the controls are. It could be something that makes some aspect of using the suit just a little more difficult, but not the same old same old...
Even better. I think the BBC should pick this idea up and run with it. Many of us suspect that there are other teams out there, anyway. Plus, if it was a BBC production, the humor would actually be quite good, instead of the stupid sitcom like humor that most American tv shows lately seem to spew out.

Only problem about the BBC, though I wholeheartedly agree with you is the fact that there is sort of a show like this already that has been mentioned on here before. My Hero, I've only caught a couple episodes while waiting for Doctor Who (which the new episodes only aired maybe twice on the PBS station here) or Last of the Summer Wine. It seems like an okay show. Though talking about GAH being on BBC just makes me ponder the crossover possibilities.

Don't know if the BBC would. They have "My Hero," which is pretty successful as far as Britcoms are concerned. As far as keeping the old team out of it, there's a way to do it and still have nods to the past as well. There's always a gamble if you totally ignore the past, and it also usually like shooting craps. As I've mentioned before with "GAHeroine," had it made a series, I'd been asking "Where's Ralph?" given I remembered the show from when I was two. People will wonder the same if it's a totally new team with no past hinted. What has to be done is a balance between keeping ties to the original but making it your own.

I agree with cameos too, but there might be some merit in keeping ties with the old team. There are millions of ideas story-wise that don't use them, but there could be some neat moments for fans of the original show. As for the instruction book being lost, I think that would be a prerequisite...or the fact that they just DON'T get one. Losing a piece of the suit though would change the dynamic of the outfit and I think we all agree that the suit is what gave the show the cheese factor sometimes.
