And they say I'm too literal and verbose. If I wrote posts as short as HD, I'd been at... well, quite a bit. I'll try to get people on the Culp board interested in coming back to the board and others I know who've been here off and on lately. I've seen ThatGirl and KITTKATT, and a few others.

Also, just got this rereading the post: I've got the old "Sesame Street" song "These are the people that you meet in the neighborhood" song in my head. Particular line: "There the people that you meet when you're walking down the street. They're the people that you meet each day!" How this song got into my head after X amount of years I'll never know. It's just like "What's the Name of that song?" (sings) "Ladedadeeda, Ladedadeeda, what's the name of that song?" ( ) This is what you get when you are sewing buttons for decoration on pants until 1 a.m. last night.

Hey, most of my posts lately have been short and sweet. The longest one lately has been Jo's birthday story (and pretty good at doing it in an hour. )

I noticed that one way to combat this on this forum has been that each posting member adopt a member that has been gone for quite some time. We email them and tell them of all the changes that have been made and try to encourage them to come and get in on the fun. While that might work with members who post sporadically, what about the rest? How can we email those who have hidden addresses...or the ones who opt-out of mass emails from the administrators? What will be done to encourage them to return? I know the admins can email them, but how do you encourage them back? I know that I have seen forum emails sent directly to the trash bin...and others might too. I think it would be best to do it all of these ways, but that the main impetus should come from the admins unless you are a good friend with a poster who is absent. For my part, I am sure going to heckle Miss D to get back on HERE some too...woman can't live on Pam alone...I know I could, but I am sure Miss D cannot. If this idea fails, where do we go from here?

I think we'll be getting more visitors now that the boxed set is coming out. For those who are new, welcome to the boards. Please stop in and say hi, as we have a lot of fun on the boards. There's funny screencaptions, sometimes fanfiction challenges, and even just shooting the breeze. For those who have come back after a while, welcome back. We're glad to see you again.

In one context you guys are right, I have noticed that there are many members here that almost never post. I too have been annoyed with those members as well, just because they will have less then 5 posts to their name. In another angle, I realize I am also one of the people being indicted here and guilty as charged for not posting that often. I have gone months without visiting or posting here at the site, but that doesn't mean I don't care or have given up on fandom. Sometimes I just get busy with other things, and GAH becomes something I'll put on my mental shelf for a while. I missed the 25th Anniversary chat, something I do regret, because I remember the 20th Anniversary chat being a lot of fun with the few members that showed up. But you have to realzie that people just can't always make it to every single event, and we can get really busy with other things in our personal lives. Yes the release of the tin box set was what brought me back to the old playground, and I've been gaga with excitement over it. The games and contests that are done are great ideas, you guys have done a lot of work in keeping the board interesting. I'm impressed with all the effort and work put in here. Certainly we rarely did anything like that on the old boards. I'm not sure why I don't participate in more of them, I probably would have rabidly been a participant in contests and games back in 1999 when GAH.com was first launched. I like discussing all aspects of the series, from storylines, actor quirks, production techniques, and outright nostalgia,....but I do realize that after being a member of GAH.com for over 7 years, there can be a feeling of "we've covered that", "we've been there". I hope you guys don't misinterepret what I'm saying, you know I'm still a die-hard fan, it's just that there are times when a certain fan fatigue sets in and I really only get jazzed up now unless something like a new DVD/merchandise is released. I do wonder what happened to old members such as BurgerAlertBoy, Mr. H and such. There've been a lot of good times here the past 7 years, I still remember the great Don Cervantes (Paco) hunt on the old boards many years ago. Cervantes seemingly fell of the face of the earth and a group of us were dedicated to finding out his whereabouts. Or at least, threaten people with a shoe beating (see "The Hand Painted Thai"). That hunt was so hysterical. Classic. Moments like that should be archived in GAH.com history. -scenario-

I am glad to see so many people coming back! Even if for a short visit!
I hope people don't think we are annoyed (well maybe some are). I personally just want to see an actual members list, and not one that is inflated. Maybe it doesn't matter. I think it would be nice to free up some of the better names so that they can be reused if in fact people who registered them aren't members.
I think the question is how do we make this a better place for people so that they want to visit. And since the board has changed a bit (new threads, activities, the captioning section), maybe others would have fun visiting again...
Of course, life happens. We all know... there have been months where I couldn't post, and it's not a big deal. I just like to see other GAH people having as much fun as I do, or coming to visit their GAH family.
It's like a GAH family reunion, and I am Auntie Josie, making hot apple pies.

I'm exactly the same way Scenario (though I wish one reason I couldn't post as often was to watch the Astros play for a chance at the World Series this year. St. Louis got lucky, as you don't pretty much have a sure thing (8.5 game lead) drop to a literally down the wire decision. ) We all have times when we can't post much, so we don't. Vacation, crazy jobs (which happened to me for a time), illness, blown up computers a la "The Shock Will Kill You" (again, has happened to me), or just plain "I need a break from this." Here, I think the talk isn't about anyone who's at least posted and such off and on (for the same reasons you mentioned), it's the ones who just sign up, never activate their account and never post. It's sorta like spamming in a way, but nothing else, just annoying. I think some people think: Hey, this is another Superman room ( but true), sign up and when they see it's Ralph, Pam and Bill, they say "forget this" and leave. Otherwise, it's more of a now and then poster, and that's fine too. Afterall, we have lives (though mine right now is rather silly. )

Yeah, I don't post that much. And I've been around since this board launched in Feb. '05, and years and years before that on the old board. I guess I'm just selective in the topics I join in on.
I did notice that the people who never post have the label of Bystander, instead of Student. Special Ed Student would have been cruel but funny.

Special Ed students....?
Tony: Are you tawkin to me?
Cyler: Nah, Man. They're talking ABOUT you!
Rhonda: Hey, Mista H! Help us out? If bystandas are gonna become special ed students, you know, isn't our classroom gonna get too crowded, you know?
Rodriquez (off screen): Hey, Villacana, with those pants and suspenders, you already look like a...
Ralph (off screen): Don't say it... ok?

HD keeps trying to get me to make that change from "Bystanders" to "Special-Ed Students", but since it looks at first glance like we are calling new members "mentally/physically disabled" as opposed to "a student in Ralph's class" I never will. Sorry HD.
On the other hand, the email to all members seems to hae worked pretty well, at least temporarily:
There have been 20 users online in the past 24 hours. greenguy, billswoman, Captmiloman, extreme01, houdiniderek, Jo Pierce - GAH Noir, karyyk, KTfanfic, Lauren, Maxwell - F.B.I., MelMac, MortimerWest, MST3Claye, MyTatuo, Ms_Lilacs, Sayscalled, scenario, stingray, Succatash, The J-Man

Ah ha! So it WAS a mass mailing. Nice... Spam is sometimes good...
GAH Mods: It wasn't SPAM!!
The GAH Vikings: SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM!!
GAH Mods: I DON'T LIKE SPAM!!
Well, either way, good to see the crowd growing.
GAH Noir: Hey! It's pretty crowded back here... can you make some room?
Bill: Uh, Josie, darlin, why not just stay back here with me...?
Mac (kicking GAH Noir standing behind her): Oh, brother...

And you actually log in when you are around some. I am talking about the people that never post and never even activate their accounts. I understand that a lot of the issues covered here were covered in the old board...I have read most of it and know that to be true, so I can see why members like you and the J-Man stay out of discussions a lot of the time. However, most people may not be able to navigate the old board and such...if they even realize one existed. So, we rehash it here...and sometimes get new perspectives. So, please don't feel attacked. I just wish there was a better way to get people to activate and post...at least every now and then like you do.

OCTOBER IS ADOPT-A-NONPOSTING-MEMBER MONTH! Perhaps Jo can email Sayscalled? Billswoman can email AverageAmericanHero? Mel can email MortimerWest? J-Man can email scenario? Greenguy can email MaxSommers? HD can email everyone else? Seriously, we plan to do another mass email on the day the box set is released, A WEEK FROM TODAY(!), inviting members back to the board. (I try to limit the amount of times I do this, so no one accuses US of spamming. Plus, it doesn't really work, anyway... J.R. Yates will come back for two posts, and then go back to whatever kept him busy in the first place... ) I have tried emailing a couple of people like PDavidson1981 and Lupin to test the waters. They used to be on at times and I would like to see them back. So, they are my trial balloons. I would have emailed more, but it is hard to do for a very simplistic reason. A LOT of our members have their email addresses hidden, probably to cut down on this very thing. Therefore, at some point, the admins are going to have to do something different anyway and probably mass email because they are the only ones with the ability since the addresses are not hidden to them. I guess we can wait and see, but as October draws to a close, more people may be stopping by, but it seems like fewer are posting. This might not have worked out the way we wanted it too if this continues to be the trend.

Well, at least we're reaching people. Maybe we can try a game thread with a one sentence start. (Just kidding, unless someone else starts it, I think we'll end up with another DOA one. )

I see more of it today. MagicJammies (not to be confused with "magicjammies) has been a member longer than I have, and yet, only two posts. This member has not posted in almost two years...and what do we do?
We recognize him in the BIRTHDAY THREAD! Why? Why should we even bring it to his attention that we care if he is not around? Especially not been around in almost two years? Obviously not the hardcore member he or she might have been.
I am still just frustrated with our lack of true members. Even the ones that have stopped posting still come by for a look sometimes, like the JMan and scenario. I have tried to reach others, but my emailing ploy failed...I never heard anything from them. I still think it might be a good idea to delete some members for inactive accounts...especially if they have been on here for long enough to rectify the situation.

Only one's I've wondered are the ones who have been registered for a year with NO posts. That's why I had the big bosses delete Tigre, a secondary name I got when MelMac was acting up (the username not myself. ) Them I understand because it feels like they joined just to say "Hey, I read your board and liked it." Wonder if they thought it was a guestbook (and maybe we could do that too? Just an idea to kick around (or out. )
