Oh, well, all right, if you insist.
Late Spring, 1976, I was 14 years old, living just north of Biloxi, Mississippi. President Ford was coming to town for the "Blessing of the Fleet" (shrimping you know). My sis next up from me, and our brother, and I decided to go see him, having never seen a Real Live President before.
We were all in tanktops, and these gov'ment stiffs were walking around in three-piece suits, sunglasses and lapel pins... Yep, very Bill Maxwell-ish, lol! He got that part right.... but any way, they were obviously Secret Service. My brother, who was 20 at the time, was going around asking, Are you the Secret Service? Are you the Secret Service?
We're being held back by a rope "fence," and to my right, the Prez starts coming down the line. I'm right up against the rope, with my brother two people behind and my sis nearby. As Ford got in front of me, the crowd SURGED and I went WHOA! and fell on top of him. Smack, right down to my knees.
My first thought was that every SS agent in the world was going to jump my shat, so before I even got up, I held my hands up so they were visible. Ford (who I'd never realized was such a big guy!) reached down and took me by the elbows, and just LIFTED me to my feet. And I wasn't a small girl either (not BIG, just tall and solid).
So an eternity of about two seconds pass, my hands are still quite visible, and I stuck my right hand out, smiling, and chirped HI! He smiled and said, Hello, and shook my hand, and continued down the line.
Now the seriously funny stuff: My brother, not missing a beat, yells, Hey, Helen! Did you get his wallet??
(He's such a scream, I so adore my brother!)
When we got home, he goes tearing into the house and yells to Mom, Helen fell on the PRESIDENT!
Needless to say, this is one of my fondest memories of my teen years.

I love your brother's line - that's classic I knew Ford was a big guy, but that's still pretty surprising. It's cool that he was so composed. Still, I can't help thinking if the hamster-wheel in his head spun a little faster (like your brother) he might've had a witty comeback like, "And I'm supposed to be the clumsy one!" Ha! But that's why everyone needs fanfic writers following them around, whispering in their ear. Seriously, that's a great story and you tell it really well. You should send it to a magazine....

[ ] Ralph: How in the world did she do that? Bill: I don't know, but we have to stop her before we end up looking like an ad for a billboard about world peace. Tht's nothing compared to what I'm doing next...hehehe

[glow=red,2,300]OMG, I was thinking the same thing![/glow] When I was a newborn, President Nixon drove by in a motorcade. (A convertible no less). My dad swears he pointed at me and said "Baby". My brother and sister were waving American flags...I think that's what got his attention....
I also got my picture taken with Bush Sr. college. I actually walked up to Barbara and asked if I could get in a a picture with him. She said "Oh George, this young lady wants a picture with you". (I still have it!) And boy is that man TALL! I'm 5'9" and he hovered over me!

It's www.greatestjournal.com/ and it is pretty much a knock-off of LJ, with at least two exceptions: a free account isn't limited to only three icons, and it allows regional searches (LJ is premium only for region, cuz people want to meet with locals of course). As for the banner in the signature, I can't help you with that.
