For those of you who have not been around for a long time (i.e. back when we had the old disc.server board and even before we had the domain name GreatestAmericanHero.com), MaxSommers was the webmaster around here, and is the one who got this website of the ground. greenguy knew nothing about websites and HTML, so Max helped him create the old site on Geo$*ities. I joined them and helped them out with pop-up free web space, and helped set up their new domain and the flash intro. Well, life happens, and Max's life got complex, let's say. But in looking for people to tell about the chat on March 18th, I went looking for Max, and he has now joined the new message board. Hopefully he will be able to contribute once in a while... Welcome back, MaxSommers! 5 extra points to a newbie who can guess where HIS name comes from.

I'd answer the other, but I'm technically a senior here (at 10 months).

I don't think I ever counted as a newbie since I had close to 500 posts my first day. What do you consider by newbie? Someone that was never on the other board, because I would count. Max...did you do a better job than MyTatuo? If so, you might be named in Greenguy's will.

Max...did you do a better job than MyTatuo? If so, you might be named in Greenguy's will. Just one problem with that: greenguy's not dead. I just spoke with him on the phone, and he promises to start ignoring his family and post here more often.

Max...did you do a better job than MyTatuo? If so, you might be named in Greenguy's will. I considered everyone that wasn't on the old boards to be a "newbie" last year in '05. Not that being a newbie is a bad thing in itself, and I'm certainly not trying to claim any type of rank or privelege just because I've been around for so long. And anyways, most of you newbies have way more posts then I do on this new board. So you are not newbies anymore. But from my point of view, you guys still feel like fresh faces. The old timers would be anyone that was on the old boards, especially if you were on it from way back in the day. By the way, welcome back Max. -scenario-

Well, if some of you old fogies would be on more often and post more often, we wouldn't be fresh, new faces.

I will take your word for it...I will let you know when I get there...if I ever do. Said the rooster to a scenario.... Calls me grandma too, and I'm 27. Yes, old enough to watch the show, remember computers that filled a room and had to stay at 65 degrees or so (yes, even in the '80s), and even remembering when they had cookies as part of the "Return to the Jedi" promo.... Maybe I am getting a bit old. (Either that or have a very good memory...probably both)

^I was 5 years old back in the spring of 1981, when GAH came on. I'm 30 right now. A lot of times I do feel old (but only relative to that under 25 youth culture). But I don't think you can be too much younger then me and still be able to remember GAH's original airing on ABC in 1981-'83.
Interestingly, I remember back in the early years of the old board, I often felt like "the kid" in that place when I was in my early 20s. It seemed like everyone else was older then me. Today I'm one of the older guys, not just in age but also by the fact that I've been hanging around GAH.com for nearly 7 years.
I remember watching the Pilot episode in their original airings for a lot of 80s shows.
The Greatest American Hero The Fall Guy Voyagers! Knight Rider The A-Team Silver Spoons Webster Punky Brewster Miami Vice MacGyver Small Wonder Starman
Nearly every series that aired from 1981 to 1987 I watched in first run, and I remember when the series preimeried. The big one I know I don't remember is The Dukes of Hazzard, but that's because that came on in 1979, and I didn't watch as much TV at that age. Hero was the first current TV series I remember falling in love with in my life. Before that I was digging reruns of a lot of TV shows from the 60s and 70s.

I am only six years your junior so I don't remember GAH in its original run...not at all...I do remember a lot of the A-Team though. I just ACT like I am always five, so 30 SOUNDS really old.

Yeah I'm still not used to it. (30)
I tend to look younger then I am, and a lot of people think I'm around 23.

I'm 27 (hence me chiding HD about him calling me a grandma), and remember most of the shows you listed, plus a few more like "Out of this World," "MASK" and other shows like that. (I too don't quite look my age, unless I get a pic taken after walking a 6.4 mile event. ) "The Greatest American Hero" is the earliest grown up show I remember watching. Ralph was pretty much my invisible friend then. I remembered several of the episodes over the course of time, but it was things like Ralph hitting the billboard and a few holographs. Episodes I do remember for sure were the Pilot (because of the holographs), "Train of Thought," "Hand-Painted Thai," "Beast in the Black" (Well at three it was very , still is) and "Resurrection of Carlini" (Water tourture trick). The show itself has inspired me to expand my writing, art, and even juggling skills. I've written fanfics, drawn quite a few icons (some of which are in my avatar and sig lines), and even created a juggling routine. I guess that's the beauty of the show, taught us to laugh, but also to think.

There was something about early 80s TV that was so magical, so special. The TV lineup from 1981 to '84, actually definately 1985 as well, had this Disney World sort of twinkle to it.
I loved the network promos from that era. When I watch them it makes me feel like a little kid again. The jingles ABC and NBC ("Let's all Be There!", "Sunday is the place to be on NBC!") used were so well crafted. And often times, more entertaining then the various sictoms that aired and bombed. Remember the star tunnel ABC used for their movies of the week? Or NBC's pre-movie of the week theme? That was great stuff, it got you all jazzed up for the big show. The same was true for the teasers that were infront of TV shows back then, and the end trailers for next weeks episode. You see nothing like that done on TV today.

Yep, too much sex and violence for my liking. There are a few shows I like, but not too many from present day. I can list more from my childhood clearly than I can from just the past few years, even then sometimes sketchy.
I'd much rather pop in a DVD collection of "GAH," "Remington Steele," "Doctor Who," or other shows than watch another version of "CSI" (Though I do like the Miami version). But, with the exception of this show and "Crossing Jordan," There's not much on prime-time big network TV I'll watch.

It the one where Face has to pretend to be a ship's doctor so they can get passage. BA also has to pretend he's an invalid, and Murdock dresses up as a ghost and catches a lot of the bad guys.

So RENT them, duh. Right now, same problem (cost, as I don't use the services much if at all). My luck, the DVD player will eat them up (did that with a videotape I had recently.
