That would be Joey Scarbury, who pretty much sang all the songs in Greatest American Hero. And it was written by Stephen Geyer, who wrote basicially ALL of the original music in the show. Sweeeeeeet!

Dont be affraid to join the board and register. Yeah, you don't even have to post every day! You could do 500 posts a month, or take a few months off between posts. Maybe both.

Speaking of 500 posts a month, do we need to put an APB out on houdiniderek?
And this song... any title? I've only seen Dreams once, can I assume it's from that ep then? Season 2, Episode 17?

He'll be back in a few days, as he is very busy. I won't be posting much either in the next few days as I'll be away from a computer. (Considering I've written a lot of posts lately, some the length of an essay, I need to take a break anyway. ) And, to answer your question, the song Dreams, sung by Scarbury, is played in the episode of the same name. It's also the only time that the instrumental of "Believe It or Not" is not played at the end. The full-length version of this song is played instead.

I thought he might be talking about your not posting in a while. The other one (500/month), HD's been kidded about all the time. I mentioned my posts because they're true, especially the essay one that is also known as the final move on the story. (He almost got me on the posting daily note, but I don't post every day.) But, on the other hand, that's the best part of all with joining is that we can joke with each other about things such as posts, etc. Example, I think one of the best is the spoof move in the middle of interactive game thread. HD and I were bantering about a move I made in the story, and I told HD I was frozen until he or someone else moves. Then, we get the spoof move MyTatuo wrote, which was very good. Or, take the tickertape at the top of the main page about the story. All in all, marco, this is one reason to join the boards other than just because you enjoy watching "The Greatest American Hero."

First of all, thanks to all for the replies... During the Week-End I've found on I-Tunes one version of "Dreams", written by Geyer, but the singer is John Denver and the album is "The season of the heart". It's pretty good, but I think that the Scarbury's version was better...and impossible to find 4 me ( Anyway, I'm thinking about registering here. CYA aboutheaven.splinder.com

What? What? Someone mentions JOHN DENVER!!! OH MY GAWD!! That song is the same one Scarbury sings?? (Runs to grab her copy of John's "Dreams" now!) I'll have to listen and compare the two, but seeing as John Denver is My Favorite Singer In The Whole Wide Universe, I think I'm going to favor HIS version Okay, Joey's an awesome singer too, no denying that... but hey, JD's going to win out every time for me! Additional: DARN IT, I can't find my copy of "Dreams" as sung by John Denver, in all my data backup CDs I'll have to rummage around, because I've got all of my JD songs, which must be over 300 by now, backed up somewhere (I just don't KNOW where!) Any way, I found the lyrics online, and sure enough they all say by Stephen Geyer! It's amazing to me that John Denver sang a song written for GAH! Maybe he saw it and thought, Hmmm, I'd like to do a cover of this song, this is good stuff! Also, per the lyrics I found, the version at the end of "Dreams" is NOT the full version. It leaves this out: Then he takes his break And he counts his take A dollar buys a beer A quarter of his life is gone And what’s he doing here Times are hard The old backyard is covered in cement The people seem afraid to dream And dream don’t cost a cent You can find the lyrics at www.spynets.com/lyrics/lyrics_details.php?ID=80116 if you want to see them all.

I didn't like Denver's version of Dreams at all. In fact, I sold the CD a week after buying it - that's how much I didn't care for his take on it. The record went gold though, so it was popular overall. Stephen Geyer himself has even said he prefers Joey's version, and I agree 110%.
Also, some trivia for you, in the GAH version of Dreams, that is Stephen Geyer himself playing the guitar while Joey sings. One talented guy...

I have to admit something too: I don't even know the darned song, whether JD or JS did it. I was just blowing smoke when I said, I'm sure John Denver's version will be better I'll have to wait and see, some day, which one I like. Have to dig the JD version out somewhere. Not dogging on either Geyer or Scarbury, mind you. I absolutely LOVE the song from "Divorce Venusian Style," and will often sing it to myself when I'm out and about the real world. In fact, I like it so much, I'm going to go listen to it, see ya!

Never fear, billswoman, I have returned momentarily...as MelMac's Bi+ch, I have other duties to perform for the moderators, so had to take some obligatory time off to recover. Today is my last set of posting until after Thanksgiving as I will be out of town. But, when I get back...maybe I will get that fifth star...who knows? Someone may beat me to it in a week or two of non-posting by me. See you all later. Happy Holidays.

OK, HD (and I know you're out there....) I've got till then to beat your 1,187 posts I take offense that we joined almost on the same day, and you have so many more than I. Wait, I think I've mentioned that before. I bet you won't be able to wait till after Turkey Day, even if it is only 8 days away. Heh.

Hmmm, I don't know what he's talking about (very confusing given his new rank), unless it regards the story. (I inadvertently gave his namesake character (Henry Danielson, or HD for short) a concussion when I changed the speaker in a sentence from Tatt to HD. I had HD say "HD and I.") I think he's still giving me a hard time, since I promised his character wouldn't be hurt. Speaking of posts, billswoman, I've been on the boards since late February/March (had to restart my account again because my computer had amnesia and forgot my password, hence April under my avatar), and I'm no where near either of you, yet. But considering how verbose I get, it's not too surprising I'm lagging behind.

That's actually a song by John Denver. Actually it was used in TGAH first, even though the episode did not air until March of 1982. Here's what TGAH song writer Stephen Geyer told me about Dreams: "I had written that song at least a year or so before Cannell heard it (possibly as a result of Post having played a demo for him I had made in hopes of getting it recorded by a major artist). Cannell and Post wanted the song for an episode Stephen had written, and both were strongly urging me to let that be the song for the show. Stephen felt the song and show were so well matched that he even wanted to call the episode "Dreams". Feeling the pressure and flattery from my two main mentors, I gave the song up to the show which ended up being a dreadful business decision for me, in as much as it was soon recorded by John Denver on an album that went gold, and was cut by other artists as well".

When I ran across this thread, I felt compelled to chime in. My Wife was a huge fan of GAH God rest her soul. In the fall of 2018 she was watching a marathon and I happened to hear "Dreams" played at the beginning of the episode of the same name. I literally ran to the living room and fell instantly in love with it. I searched for the episode and found it, giving me the chance to capture the audio, even though as someone mentioned, it is not complete. I was determined to learn the song, since it's right in my key and right up my alley. I was getting around to that when I lost my Wife and I say that because now that I have learned it, it's part of my everyday repertoire and I play it for her with fond memories.
At first I had hoped to find chords or tabs, but as Stephen Geyer mentioned in a YouTube thread, under Denver's live version, "Thanks for posting this version. I wrote "Dreams" well before the show ever existed. Stephen Cannell heard me play it one day and asked if I would offer it up to an episode of G.A.H. he'd written. I agreed, and though it meant ABC, Cannell, and Post then gobbled up my publishing rights, I did get an Emmy nomination. BTW, in my opinion this live version is much better than the studio recorded version on the gold selling album, "Seasons of the Heart". BESTephen"
So, ABC and Cannell apparently had everything locked down to the extent that neither Joey's version, or the chords and tabs, exist. That being said, I never let things like that stop me and I prevailed in the end. Sometime in the near future I intend to attempt uploading my cover to the tube, in hopes I don't get a copyright strike. Dreams is truly a beautiful song and I was inspired by a beautiful lady to learn it.
