That one I liked a lot too. It was nice to see a good guy who wanted his money for a job done...even if not well.

Who by? Do you think they all have this deal with Cannell or do you think the more popular shows won't be screwed over as much?

Cool. I still have the video tape of the pilot episode that Universal/MCA released in 1992 as part of their Premeir Collection - The Debut Episodes Of Television's Most Popular Shows.

Do you have an entire vault of old TV?

Just a home video library with a healthy helping of the classics and cool rarities.

Sigh, all I can think of is how my Mom would've felt, having Jim Rockford on DVD any time she wanted him. That was her favorite show of all time. Thanks, SJC, for giving it to her. I'm not sure if I mentioned this elsewhere, about what an awesome guy James Garner is. We wrote to him and told him he's our Mom's very favorite actor of all time (even over Robert Culp, who she totally crushed on in the 60's and I Spy), and he sent her an autographed personalized picture. She had it framed and hung on her living room wall! Did you know "The Rockford Files" is one of the few, the proud, to have NEVER jumped the shark? Yep. Kudos again to SJC, and James Garner, for such an awesomely great show. I think Rockford Files is SJC's crowning jewel (yes, even over GAH). You can read about it at www.jumptheshark.com/ if you've never been there before. FUN site to cruise around and vote on. Just a little FYI, in case you're wondering... it got the name from the "Happy Days" ep in which Fonzie, attired in swimming trunks and leather jacket, jumped over a tankful of sharks. It's that turning point in a series when it's all downhill from there, what defining scene or moment? Needless to say, many considered that the point when "Happy Days" did a big stall spin crash and burn. And they're right, it did. I stopped watching after that nonsense. Rockford Files, Barney Miller and WKRP are a very small handful of the very few to have been voted "Never jumped!" After Star Trek (original, of course), WKRP in Cincinnati is my favorite show. Sorry, I'm digressing a bit here... but my point is how incredibly great TRF is, and I'll most likely buy it when it's out. I really miss that show!

Garner and Culp were in "CastawayCcowboy" a Disney film back in the 70's. I've been itching to get my hands on it, but to no avail.
I think MCA Universal is also doing the Rockford DVD's. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Unversal distributed it originally, along with Magnum, P.I, Columbo, and others.

My sis has commanded that I don't get anything else off eBay, or I might duplicate what she's gotten me already. I told her I won the 11x14 poster of Bill Maxwell, and she almost stroked out. All she'd say is that what she's gotten me isn't connected with I Spy or GAH, but "in between" the two. Gads, Mom would've been in heaven, both Culp and Garner??

Does anyone have these? I saw an ad yesterday that offered both Season 1 and Season 2 of ROCKFORD on DVD, but I have not bought them yet. If I do get them, they are quite a ways down on my list. I liked the show, but since my wife has never seen them, she might be testy about getting it. {Of course, I have NEVER steered her wrong before: She loves HOGAN'S HEROES and THE A-TEAM now...can't shut her up about those}.

I don't, since there's a lot of choices out there right now: a couple of "Doctor Who" DVD's I'd like, "Campion" (but I have a book right now that one ep's from so I'll read it first), and even "Gomer Pyle, USMC". But, this one would be good to get too. Hard choice...

Has anyone picked up any of the Seasons of ROCKFORD? Are they worth the investment? Good special features? Someone throw me a dog biscuit here.

I know this is a very old thread, but in the 1970s, The Rockford Files was my Absolute Most Favorite Show. I grew up watching Jim Rockford and Rocky and Angel and Beth Davenport and them all. Billswoman, if you read the jumptheshark.com info about TRF you'll see that everyone, I mean EVERYONE, including myself, felt that episode with the mild woman being gang-raped was WAY out of line and really a hideous episode for the series. But, otherwise, the series was good all the way through. As for collecting Culp movies such as Castaway Cowboy (both actors are great in that one), Hickey and Boggs (It ain't your mothers "I Spy" show...) and etc. I suggest going to www.ioffer.com which is where I have bought ZILLIONS of old Culp items. I mean stuff he's done from the late 50s on up. Also, I just ordered a couple of VERY hard to find Culp items from www.wwvideos.com, an out of print world wide video source. Mona

I had the opportunity to meet Joe Santos and Stephen J. Cannell last week at the Star dedication for Brian Keith. Let me just tell you, Joe is funny as hell! He had no problem whatsoever signing autographs and getting into pictures with people.
He told us that he plays poker with James Garner once a week and Jim is recovering nicely from his recent stroke.
We also ate at the Paradise Cove Beach Cafe, where Rockford was filmed. (Where his trailer was parked I should say).

Wow, Garner had a stroke? He had a heart attack years ago. Glad to hear he's recovering well. I hope he doesn't have too many physical deficits as a result of it.
It's always nice to hear that a TV show set was a pleasant place and folks got along well. The show has been off the air for more than 25 years and it's wonderful to hear of Santos and Garner still meeting weekly. Just like Culp and Cosby being best friends 40 years after "I Spy" went off the air. I just love that kind of stuff.
Did you ask Cannell about a TGAH movie, Mrs. Maxwell?
