I was just thinking today that so many of SJC's shows were ahead of the times and got canned way before they should have. Granted, we were blessed with a lot of shows, even if some were edited like GAH and such. What really irritates me though is that these shows that were not as well-received are not on DVD too. Only PROFIT seems to have jumped that hurdle, but they could have put all the little series into one big collector's edition with interviews and unaired episodes and the like and made a bundle. For example: Profit Tenspeed and Brownshoe Unsub That would have been a great three-pack that would have sold I am sure...and would have gotten great exposure for other shows out there. It is too bad there is not something like this for avid SJC fans...right, JMan?

Only thing I can think of why this might not be up right now: It's centered around politics and such.

So are other of his shows I am sure. But I was thinking that they could have released three or so at a time of complete series and that would have gotten more shows out there to audiences that wanted them...for the same price (or even a little higher) than you could buy a full season. Together, all three of the ones I listed might have had 30 episodes...MIGHT have...and that would have been a major coup for the production company. Also, they could have put some of the failed pilot shows and TV movies together for a pack as well. I should really be in the DVD industry...I think I could satisfy most people...even if I did have to sell DVDs with music edited.

Are there other SJC shows that were short-lived that people would like to see on DVD...especially in a multipack with something else? I figure that the more options I give...I might be taken more seriously in my letter.

GG who has so many shows, doesn't have any of this series

Well, any multi-pack that includes "Tenspeed and Brownshoe" should also include "J.J. Starbuck" since both starred Ben Vereen as Tenspeed. Then I'd complete that three-pack with "Sonny Spoon". It's all light, airy Eighties fun.
"Unsub", together with "The Hat Squad" and "Broken Badges" (and maybe, just maybe "Top of the Hill") would go well together as turn-of-the-decade, grittier, darker Cannell fare.
Of course, that's assuming you want to have thematically linked sets. If you just want to sell product that you might otherwise have a hard time selling, take one sure-fire seller and bundle it together with two head-scratchers.
"Tenspeed and Brownshoe" should be a great seller. Ben Vereen and Jeff Goldblum. How can you go wrong? Bundle that with "The Quest" and "Palace Guard". And so on, and so on...

Here's another one: "The Rousters" (AKA Ernest Gets a Network Deal). Jim varney's face still sells product, doesn't it? Bundle that piece of crap together with a couple of other non-starters like "The 100 Lives of Black Jack Savage" and "The Last Precinct". Just make sure that the DVD cover prominantly features Jim Varney's face, like the old VHS release of the pilot episode... Boy, to look at that, you'd never even know that Chad Everett was the star of the damn thing. Marketing 101, my friends...Marketing 101...

I wouldn't care if they did either of those ideas, but it would be nice to see some of the other shows that were good, but not picked up at all or for as long out on DVD so new generations of fans can enjoy them.

Anyone planning to go to a convention where SJC is at? Want to float these ideas past him? Ms. B: Want to get Katt on this since he knows SJC?

With SCJ's death, I think about this quite a bit. We have some great shows out on DVD because they were popular. But I would love to see some of the others, even brought out to streaming services. Jeff Goldblum has a short-lived series RAINES on Amazon Prime, but we can't get a complete series, including pilot, of TENSPEED AND BROWNSHOE.

I don't think anyone who controls the rights to Cannell's library cares much about pursing a company to get shows released. That's why I was shocked to learn Shout Factory had made a deal for streaming. I really wish all of the Cannell owned series would be upgraded in HD, while maintaining the original aspect ratio.
When I spoke with him in 15 years ago, he was all about getting everything released that he could.
