When this was on TV, I will admit that I did not watch it much, nor did I have that much interest in it. To me, it was another cop show and it had no real appeal...just like shows that are CSI-based now have no real appeal. However, after learning more about it on the GAH DVD commentary and doing some research, I think I would have liked it because it is similar in nature to GAH...a normal guy dealing with a lot of the problems people face in life. (Granted, it wasn't to the same degree as outlandish as GAH, but I think it is along the same vein). Has anyone seen it? What do you think? Is it out on DVD? The CommishEdit: It IS out on DVD, but does anyone have it? Good extras?

I remember watching it when I was little, and it is pretty good. One thing I loved was the opening credits where he's reading a book I think on problems of the digestive system, and he's eating without the context phasing him. Now, it's been a while though, so I can't really go into details about what happened and all, but I do remember it being quite funny and Chiklis getting accolades for the role.

He got a lot of accolades for it and it had some awards, which is funny since none of the producers wanted Chiklis in the role.

I have to say he's a versitile actor though... look at how he plays a bad-cop on "The Shield." And, I think his role's the best part about "The Fantastic Four" movie. He looks and acts like Thing. The others seemed hollow to me.

Even though I never watched the show, I did find that the scene with the doughnut was perfect and funny. It worked great to set the tone now that I think back on it.

I saw pretty much the whole series when it was on new. Since then, I haven't seen it at all, but I do remember really liking the show. I thought I at least heard that the first season is out or is coming out... www.tvshowsondvd.com/

It was one we had to watch when it came on, a lot like "ER" in its first seasons (one of the actresses, Sherry Stringfield, was Kate Lucas in the musical "TEXAS." Maybe this is a bit silly trivia, but watch it one day be the $1M question in a gameshow. ) "The Commish" was just fun to watch overall, combining humor and serious stuff as well. The Commish had to fight crime and such, but had a family to come home to that dealt with the good and the bad (such as his wife's rape if I remember right). I also liked that family aspect, which you don't see enough of nowadays on TV.

To me, it was always the counterpart to something like PICKET FENCES where it was considered more a drama about the same thing, but the COMMISH was usually the lighter side of it. I think both had their hearts in the right place...unlike now where it is murder and rape and no family material and such.
