Ralph: All right, I'm going to get those thieves... (pauses) great, I don't have the suit on and I left my keys at home. Pam, let me in the car. Pam (off pic, rummages through purse): Ralph, I don't have the keys. Oh no... they're locked in the car. Ralph: Terrific.

John Smith: I'm telling you the truth. That dame can vouch for it with her pics. Ralph: I don't care... John Smith, there is no way that she saw chickens cross the road. If Mel did, I think she'd know the answer. Mel (off pic): Yes... to get to the other side to talk with the other roosters. (Ralph starts to say something) And yes, I have the pics. One even decided to follow me around. Ralph: Just make sure he wasn't being fowl or cocky.

Let's see who can guess what happened to me today? Ralph-Bill this car looks familiar. What "bad guy" does it belong to? Bill-It doesn't`t belong to a bad guy. It's Ms B's car. Ralph-What? Why am I shaking it? Bill-It's stuck in park and I can't get the darn thing out of it. Ralph-(puts the car down)Ya know you could do it the old fashioned way and go under the hood. Bill-Yeah, OK let's see...The radiator attached to the carborator... Bill-No wait. The alternator's attached to the thingy over there... Bill-Ohh boy. She's gonna kill me. Ralph-Bill, I don't even think the suit can help. (Later)Ms B-(off pic)WHAT! Ralph-Oh I can't look. (Later)Gee Bill, how did you escape unscathed? Bill-Ya just gotta know how to handle tough situations and come up with a rational solution. So I told her you and the suit are gonna be her transportation until she gets her car back. Ralph-You did what? Bill-(off pic) Yeah, OK, see ya kid. I think I hear Carlisle. (he quickly leaves) Ralph- I don't know how you keep doing this to me but you and I are gonna have a reeeeal long talk when I get back! Ms B-Oh Raaaalph! I have a whole list of errands so, let's step to.

OMG! I just got a copy of the original script! In the original script of the pilot of the Greatest American Hero, the diner scene was really very different than what was actually filmed.
In the original script, Bill Maxwell does NOT pull a gun on Tony Villacana, nor does Tony pull a knife on Bill.
The original script was supposed to feature Paco's Shoe Fu moves.
I called up a friend of a friend of a friend, who has connections to the GAH world, and I was granted a one time only interview with a friend of a friend of a guy who delivered donuts to the set during the last days of filming of the pilot. This is what he said:
"Throughout the filming the pilot, there were many technical difficulties that could not be reconciled. The most obvious technical problem was the inability of the cameraman to catch Don Cervantes on film, especially in the moments leading up to and including the Shoe Fu action scene in the diner.
"On more than one occassion, SJCannell was reportedly heard saying:
"Slow down, Don! You're moving too d*mned fast!"
"Ultimately, SJCannell decided that the Shoe Fu scene was too violent and would never pass the censors. In a sudden script change, the scene was rewritten in its final production stages. Cervante's confrontation with Bill Maxwell was rewritten to include a much less violent encounter between Culp and Pare.
"Veteran actor Robert Culp immediately realized that Cervante's use of a shoe for self defense was brilliant. In a later scene of the Pilot, Culp attempted the Shoe Fu manuever himself. In an unscripted move during the first alien encounter scene, Culp removes his own shoe, and tries to smash open the window of his car. It was then that Culp realized how difficult Shoe Fu really was.
"Caught up in the action, Katt also attempted the Shoe Fu manuever. He, however, could not get the timing right. It is reported that Culp turned to Katt and offered a disapproving look. It was then that Katt decided to stick with the flying.
"Katt remained bitter about his lack of Shoe Fu coordination throughout the series.
"Throughout the series, Culp often trained under Cervantes in this martial art. During "Ralph" or "Tony" scenes, as they would often bitterly call them, Culp and Cervantes were often seen behind a trailer, barefoot and armed.
Culp, in silent meditation during training.
"It was later in season 2 that Culp insisted that Cervantes' skills be highlighted in an episode - The Hand Painted Thai.
"Cervantes and Cannell never saw eye to eye again. Throughout the three years of the series, Cannell received a number of empty shoe boxes in the mail. No formal charges were ever pressed. "Many people involved in the show believed that the controversies, petty jealousies, and threats of censorship concerning Cervantes' Shoe Fu were ultimately the cause of the series' cancellation in 1983."
[By the way, I am just kidding...]

Woman: So is our dear sweet Ralph ready for his debut? Pam: I think so... just give him a couple of minutes. Bill: Yeah... I mean it's not easy for a guy to uh... wear... uh... Ralph: I can't belive I"m doing this. It's your fault I lost that bet with the teachers and have to dance as the Sugar Plum fairy in the elementary school's presentation of "The Nutcracker." Bill: I said that the guy was comin' Ralph: Yeah... in sotto voce. Bill; I don't care what country, but you lost. Now come on twinkletoes, it's time to dance. Ralph: Pam... Pam: I can't say much. I have to be in the dance with the peacock in the next act.

Pam: Not quite, he's been hypnotized. Bill: Terrific. Next thing you know he'll do an impression of Foghorn Leghorn because I say I don't want tomatoes... Ralph (southern accent): I say, I say.... Thanks GAH Chick (BTW, since I know it's been a while since you've been on the board, Apprentice Warlock was the rank I was given when I reached my fifth star (but it can be any from "Wizards and Warlocks." It's just stayed since I became a mod. Jade Warlock... well, it's my superhero name. )
