Here is the thread for discussion of "The Greatest American Hero" Comic Book No. 3. Note - this thread title as noted [glow=red,2,300]DOES contain spoilers to the newest release of the comic series[/glow]If you wish to remain spoiler free, please avoid this thread beyond this first post. Also, please keep all spoilers (well, the ones inside the book ) to the third edition of the comic to this thread so no one risks being inadvertently spoiled who chooses to remain such until they too can purchase their second comic. It also avoids potential confusion between the three comics. As with the first two comics, it has been noted there are some relatively big spoilers compared to the original pilot ahead and this thread allows for a win-win on both sides of the spoiler issue. Please also keep discussions open-minded and polite, as there may and will definitely be varying opinions about the very large spoiler on the cover. Thanks, and enjoy discussing the thread.

When does the # 3 issue come out officially? My understanding is that it is already out in stores. It may have sold out quickly that way, but you can also order it through e-Bay.

Hello, all, I have received and read Comic #3. As usual, you can expect pros and cons from my review, which is full of spoilers. The plot moves at a ridiculously fast pace in this comic book as everything is tied up perfectly. Even for a comic book, though, things felt way too fast and I wonder if the storyboard wasn't quite as good as it could have been previous to beginning the whole project, for so many things to happen in this third chapter. However, events do work out and one isn't really confused by the speedy pace. I'm not sure they got the artist rendition of Ralph down as well as they could have, but Pam and Maxwell are done just fine. They seem to think if Ralph's hair is curly enough, that should suffice enough for matching the old looks with his new looks. I don't particularly mind, as it doesn't affect me that his looks are a bit different, as we still clearly know who he is and it's not as bad as the cover art. His face is leaner, more narrow and defined as our Ralph's face truly was; that's a big bonus point to me. Carlisle, however, still looks nothing like Carlisle, but we don't have to care about that, either. Also, the first close up shot of the bad guy looks just like Billy Bob Thornton! Coincidence? In the comic book, however, Ralph is front and center in his red jammies--I mean FRONT and CENTER. He undresses in front of cops, Pam, random people on the street; he is seen by Feds, and the President. That's a bit ludicrous and certainly takes away from some of the charm of the series with all the hiding and finagling Bill and Ralph both had to do to keep the suit as unknown as possible. Even more bizarre and unrealistic is the President deciding that its better for him (as Commander in Chief) to not know, or apparently care, about a citizen of his having special super powers. Uh-huh. Sure. Right. Yeah, THAT'S believable. Then later, Carlisle locks up the instruction book knowing Maxwell knows something about it--uh, Carlisle, like a bunch of Feds saw Maxwell and the KID IN THE SUPER SUIT. Yeah, brainiac, hello, Maxwell knows something. Ask those other agents! That was pretty stupid. In the meantime, Tony dives in front of a bullet to save Maxwell's life, which is about as opposite as the series as possible. As we all know, Tony was responsible for Maxwell having a chandelier land on our Fed's head, which resulted in a spirit from the 4th dimension almost taking him over. Now, I think any astute viewer understood that Maxwell and Tony did like each other, and realized that they were similar types of people and could have had a beneficial father/son relationship. It seems that perhaps Katt is working that angle a little more quickly in the comic. I like that! It fits a huge TGAH original fanfic story I always daydream about. And just like the unreality that TGAH the TV series had in terms of medicine, Tony is shot in the arm by a rifle, and out of the hospital all within an hour or two. What's also a bit surprising is they have Ralph flying out into space to release some gas he breathed in--I mean above the atmosphere of the Earth. I'm not myself so sure the suit has the capacity to enable Ralph to survive in outer space, but if Katt wants to imagine it does, I suppose I can live with that. They also have Ralph being quite clumsy, tripping on his clothes while undressing and flying into a pole, as well as landing badly. It's not quite as funny or charming reading it in comic as it was watching on the TV show, but the TV TGAH will always be #1 in my heart, so that may not be fair. At least they are being honest about Ralph's seemingly endless clumsiness which was endearing. An odd thing--when Ralph gets to the hideout where they've taken Bill, we see in one panel he is going to punch in the door, and the very next panel he is holding his head saying "ouch". Huh? That makes no sense. There is a goofy corny near ending where Bill is complimenting Pam, and then Bill, Ralph and Pam break out into laughter--oh, the three odd people will get along so well! It's a little heavy handed forced, and about as subtle as a freight train, but they had to end it with the three of them known to be a kind of team. As for the VERY ending, having the suit belt buckle start standing up and singing a song in the middle of the night is something new...... So, overall, I'd give it a B. Mona

[glow=red,2,300]SPOILER ALERT LINE - DO NOT CROSS[/glow]
I read the comic twice and the second time through was better and the story flowed better. I'm not really used to reading the comic book format so this is taking some getting used to. LOL
Overall, I enjoyed it. Maxwell comes out with the stuff that only Maxwell can come out with. Ralph's clumsiness with the suit is almost too comical, but it stays true to the original. Pam is Pam here and I thought the drawing of her was very very good.
I was confused on a couple of things. Like Rhonda's hair color. Was I just confused? I coulda swore she was a red head in the first comic and then, the panel where Tony is getting out of...the hospital? Court? Jail? Wherever he was, she's a red head. But the scene where she spots whatever in that other kid's locker, (money, turns out) she is blond. Did I miss something?
I also, for whatever reason, missed the fact that Bill lost his shoe, as he's hauled away by the bad guys. LOL. So when Ralph sees the halograph in the guy's sunglasses I'm thinkin' that it's like in the pilot when he sees the halograph on the wall in the hospital room. He had nothing of Bill's with him at the time. When I read through a second time I realized he tripped near (or tripped over) the shoe.
Again, I'm new to reading the comic book format, so it takes some "training" on my part to read not only the words, but "read" the images as well.
I also was a little confused by Ralph's....roommate? Who is that guy anyway? getting involved and Ralph asking him to hack into the FBI somethingorother to call in the troops. Whatever happened to calling 911? LOL
The Outer Limits comment from Bill is one of the highlights of the comic. LOL Good thing the head bad guy wasn't a demon with a glass hand....
Ralph's flight into space to exhale the poison gas was a little over the top for me. But then again, Bill's two gun Yosemite Sam-like routine on the original show treaded dangerously close to being over the top for me too. LOL
Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to future installments! ;D

Marci told me that the hair color changed on Rhonda - no explanation given. It could be a "flick flub" and they forgot that Rhonda's hair here is different than Faye Grant's was. Admittedly my hair has a tendency to change color pending on the light - but it's just darker blonde in artificial light and a light blonde in natural sunlight. That said, it's just ash blonde.

It can be a bit confusing and rushed but I understand why it's rushed. They have to get all the key points in within 3 comics.
I did like the 2nd comic the best. Not that I didn't like the others, I did.
And While Mona has valid points on the review (that I agree with) I say again, they have a lot of ground to cover in a small time frame. It is defiantly worth the read.
I am all revved up for the next story arc.

I dig that they had a lot to cover in the storyline over three comics and I think it was done very well without totally sacraficing the original core theme and recognizable elements of the show. Unlike, say, what a big screen movie could end up doing. (I know that's another topic, but I hold NO high hopes that the big screen version of TGAH will hold anything remotely recognizable to the show. I've seen too many classic tv shows get decimated in their big screen versions. Yes, I'm jaded. LOL) Anyway, I think it's great that this comic is even being done and I'm looking forward to future stories.

If Rhonda's hair is that sensitive to light...there must be some really funky lights in the hallway of the school to make very red hair look very blond! Or blonde. Or...I never did figure out which spelling to use... LOL

Don't know if it's right or not, but it does help me at least keep the gender right. Now, I haven't seen many people's hair pull something like the gemstone Alexandrite and change that drastically pending the light they're in, but then I remember "House" and how Katt's hair was everything from brown to blonde throughout the movie. (Maybe this Rhonda went to that house and the house put a spell on her hair to change colors. ) I'm looking forward to reading the next three comics when they come out. From what I've read around the Internet, the books have done really well, which shows promise for a longer run of the comics.

Just got mine today. I did notice the resemblance to Billy Bob on the villain. Nice casting there. Sounds like the villain actually believes he's doing God's work, instead of Gabriel's Army using religion as a cover like the original pilot made it sound. Sometimes those types of fanatics can be the most dangerous. Obama: "I disappoint enough adults. I don't need to be disappointing any kids." (Of course they don't call him Obama, but it's fairly obvious.) That line almost made me laugh out loud...almost. As for the President choosing to "forget" about a guy with superpowers saving his life? No way! He and his entire administration would be all over it. Any president would. Ralph, Bill, Pam, and everyone else who witnessed it would be receiving a visit from the DHS. Of course, that might still happen. Overall they managed to squeeze everything in to this "final" issue (of the 3-story arc). Looks like the suit will be telling Ralph what to do and shortening his learning curve. Bill's respect for Tony hits a faster track. And Pam faints...again. As for the belt buckle: a Transformer Mini-Con?? Or maybe he's about to meet a holographic Greenguy. Definitely a lot of new stuff happening here. I have to wonder if this is all done just for the comic book, or a foreshadowing of the suit's abilities we might see in a movie? I doubt I'll be able to talk to Katt for any length at AdventureCon next weekend...but I'll try to get some info to report.

Just do what I did when I first met him. Keep going up to his table when the line dies down. I must've done that 100 times. LOL! I'm sure he thought I was nuts. The crazy Avon Lady! It was hysterical though. Really glad I didn't pass out. I wonder what was going through his head when we first met? And did he know what he was getting into? LOL! Have fun! Take pics!

Seriously, Marci, I think he was thinking "Hmm... here comes someone who will be a good friend" given how well the two of you interacted the second time you met. Have fun at the convention Vid, sounds like it'll be a lot of fun. Wish he'd do a convention around here, but I don't think it'll be anytime soon.

Well, I didn't ask him what was going through his head but when we were talking in NJ it came up in a round about way and one thing he said was he didn't get a stand off vibe. I think that meant I was safe. It is funny though. I mean just the whole transition. I love it though. All that stalking paid off! Hahahaaha.LOL! I can't even make those jokes anymore. Eh, I got it better anyway.

And, I bet you love the transistion a lot. (You do it better than I do though - we had an Olympian here and I couldn't manage out a decent chat. Think he was OK with it though - I think he knew I was nervous.)

I do have all three comics now, and earlier on had given a review of the first comic.
While I haven't read all of the comic right yet - as far as detail - I think that overall they did a good job trying to get a lot of information into three comics. My only complaint (minor) is the artwork seemed a little bit sloppy in the third comic - I think they rushed it just a little bit - but you could still tell who was whom.
The teaser to comic four has me intrigued, so I'm looking forward to it. Yes, I have a feeling it may be a time, but I do feel we'll get the six promised here because everyone tied in to "GAH's" reputations are on the line as they're all a part of it.
