So, it looks as if the Anchor Bay editions for GAH are now out of print, although Amazon still lists four new sets left for the second season only. I haven't picked up the Mill Creek versions, but have heard the DVDs are stored loose inside the case and are wrapped in paper envelopes. I suppose this explains the very low price for the entire series set, but one would think that this type of packaging would lead to some quality control issues. The Collector's Tin is also out of print now and is priced up to $500 on ebay and Amazon's marketplace.

I bought my Anchor Bay copies on the days of release. If there is no difference with the Mills Creek's they don't do me any good. The low price and Target stores having it in stock should only add to the fandom. I am glad that after the AB's went out of print another company picked up the title.

Looks like the Anchor Bay releases can still be had out there for very reasonable prices, if that's what you're looking for. However, they can't near compare to the ridiculously low price you can find the Mill Creek releases for. I just did a price search on the Mill Creek - Season 1 release and Wal-Mart has it for $2.50.

Maxwell - the reason they're that cheap is that they just have the interview with SJC and took out "GAHeroine" (Though honestly... that may have been a good thing.)

I've read in other forums how the picture quality of the Mill Creek DVDs is comparable to watching a VHS tape recorded in SP mode. One reviewer on Home Theater Forum posted screen captures taken from both the Anchor Bay and Mill Creek releases and the difference was significant.

I just bought a couple cheaper sets off of Amazon. I know this has been talked about a lot, but the Anchor Bay DVD sets are better quality than the Mill Creek ones, correct?? I wasn't sure which brand was the better quality of DVD boxset? Are the separate ones better quality or The Complete Series set? My problem with wanting to get The COMPLETE Series boxset was because it is so expensive at around $66 for all 3 seasons....was it better going with the separate season sets? Thanks in advance. Or is THE COMPLETE SERIES SET now considered the best set to buy for quality and extras? Thanks!

No matter if you buy all three anchor bay releases, or the Anchor Bay collectors set, the quality is the same.
It's only the Mill Creek discs that do not look as good.

AGREED: The Mill Creek set squeezes more episodes onto fewer discs than the Anchor Bay set, so you sacrifice quality with the Mill Creek discs.
ALSO: The Mill Creek set doesn't have closed captions, Anchor Bay does. The Mill Creek set doesn't include GAHeroine, Anchor Bay does.

This has probably been discussed to death already, but having just gotten a copy of the Mill Creek Season 1, I'm finding it lacking the better quality, packaging and extras features from the Anchor Bay sets.... I hope they get re-issued, I'm looking for Anchor Bay Season 1 set and they are an endangered species for being out of print. The Complete Series set is tempting but really too expensive and so is the Japanese set....

No danger yet of those commanding high prices, or not being able to find affordable copies. They are a dime a dozen. Heck, here's a used copy of season one for $3.99 and free shipping: www.ebay.com/itm/The-Greatest-American-Hero-Season-One-William-Katt-Connie-Sellecca-Robert-C-/271634973375?pt=US_DVD_HD_DVD_Blu_ray&hash=item3f3eb4c2bf

I'm watching all the episodes from first to last lately, first time I do so in a few years. I have the Anchor Bay versions, actually bought in the black metal tin limited edition back in 2007.
I have read that the Mill Creek versions are sub-par to the Anchor Bay releases. I'm just curious as to what the Mill Creek menu screens look like. Do they have menu screens that show footage from the show and play the theme song like the Anchor Bay releases, or do they contain only a static image?

Do they have menu screens that show footage from the show and play the theme song like the Anchor Bay releases, or do they contain only a static image? My understanding of the Mill Creek releases was the prints were basically prints of the Anchor Bay release and were not nearly as good. There was no advantage to get them - i.e. the original music and such, so if you wanted "GAH" without shelling bookus of money for the Japan versions (which do have the original music), you were better off with Anchor Bay. (Please note my information comes off the top of my head and while I have pretty good recall, it isn't perfect. Those best in the know - Greenguy, MyTatuo, and I think houdiniderek, are not on nearly as often now). As far as any releases - There was also supposedly a special four Stephen J. Cannell pilot collection that included "GAHeroine" that was to be released by Target; however, I never saw said collection ever come out. This includes their website, which you can find just about anything. (And I do mean anything: I got a 50th anniversary limited edition book on "Thunderbirds" just this week from said store. Thunderbirds celebrated their 50th two years ago, and I got the last copy).

Ah, I see. Thanks! Regarding my question about the menu screens: that means that the menu screens are therefore identical to the Anchor Bay versions?
