It's been a while since we've had any mentions of meeting cast members from "GAH" at comic cons or the like. So much so, I honestly couldn't figure out WHERE I needed to put this.
Well... I got to meet Bill Katt, as well as actors Clint Howard and Ashley Bell, and writer/director/co-creator of "Sparks" Christopher Folino at a showing of the "Sparks" movie Sunday afternoon in Texas.
I had an absolute blast at the event. We got to watch a screening of the movie, which is very good and could rival some of the more expensive superhero ones in present day, and listen to a Q&A time afterward. They also signed copies of the graphic novel (which includes the last two parts of the series which didn't get comic covers due to the economy crash) at the end of the night.
For those who may not know the comic, the superhero world of "Sparks" is not anything like "GAH" - it's grittier and had a darker tone by far. The the trailer can be found on this thread: www.tgah.proboards.com/thread/1989/sparks-comic-fanfilm , and it gives a fairly accurate depiction of the comic itself. (Save one or two minor changes, not impacting the story, the movie is similar to the comics - now graphic novel).
That said, it's definitely worth a watch if you have the chance (It's on DVD now and I think OnDemand). In fact, I probably was the one of the few if not the only one in the theater besides the cast who actually HAS followed the comic since they started in 2007-08. It was helpful though, as there were a couple of folks wondering what "the fuss was about" and I could tell them.
After the movie and Q&A, I met all of them, and had a lot of fun chatting with them. We also took photos as well (all the cast and Folino I think by the theater photographer), though I only have one with Katt and Howard on my camera. (The person who was taking photos took the one I do have, and I've see a couple Folino took during the night).
It was a night I'll never forget, and I am thankful I had the opportunity to meet the four who attended. This goes doubly so after I missed (due to health) an opportunity to meet Stephen J. Cannell not too long before he died.
Their kindness and humor - and encouragement with working on my stutter (which was for the first time in about a month non-existent, as it gets worse if I'm tired) was greatly appreciated.
