Many thank you's for posting the link, I just bought it. I ran into that auction, or another one just like it when I was at work a couple of weeks ago. I was going to buy it when I arrived home, but something must have distracted me and I totally forgot. I will upload the article when get my hands on it.

Excellent, thank you for buying it! I wasn't interested in the whole magazine, but I look forward to seeing the interview. Culp was a comic book fan from his early years and he understood the genre very well. This should be fun.

Hey Skirt, if you think the fans over at the I Spy forum would like to read it by all means grab the pages and post them over there. If you would need a bigger pics let me know, I had to scale them down a bit for the forum to allow posting.

Excellent, thank you so much! The fans over at the I Spy forum will love it too. Culp always gave such good interviews. Tatia might have it back in her 20-year archives somewhere, but I've never seen it. And... "I'm writing my first novel at the moment." Aarrrrrggggghhhh... it never saw the light of day. I wonder if the interviewer understood his explanation of how you get a modern audience to suspend disbelief. I wonder if I understand it, LOL. But Culp understood it.

Even though many fans have the "love them, or hate them" feeling about Culp's 2 written and directed episodes, I think he was on the right track that the series should have followed. His shows fit into the 1st season framework of more personal stories wrapped around whatever crime, etc that was happening in the episode. I also think he's correct that Ralph should have gotten a handle on his powers (at least some) a lot faster than they allowed. He did show improvement in the 2nd season, but not as much as what was seen in the 3rd. That's the biggest complaint I see written today about the series, granted some of those people wanted him to have full control of the suit and be a perfect superhero but that was never going to happen and thankfully it didn't. The show could have functioned as a fun series for adults and kids would have still enjoyed the super heroics, and from what it seems like everyone in front and behind the camera understood that when the network did not or refused to.
I do take issue with Culp saying if ABC would have kept them on 30 days longer they would have "owned the time slot". If he's talking about the Thursday time period I don't think they ever would have beat Magnum P.I. they certainly would have never had a prayer in beating Dallas on Friday. They were doing well against Fame on Thursdays, so I do believe had ABC kept them on the show could have developed as a solid 2nd place. Had they let the show develop as Culp suggestion maybe they could have even beat Magnum every once in awhile. No one can ever say for sure as ABC forced a quick death.
I enjoyed Culp talking about his Big Little Book collection. My dad was the same age as Culp born the same month within days of each other, and he also had a large collection that he too gave away (almost all) and wished he hadn't. I have The Lone Ranger Big Little Book, and who knows how much a large collection like Culp had would be worth now.
