The Greatest American Hero premiered on the ABC television network. The series was heavily promoted and the pilot movie came in at number 4 for the week only beat by 60 Minutes, M*A*S*H*, and the CBS broadcast of Gone With The Wind. It scored a rating of 23.8 and a 35 share nationally. The 1st season scored well and there was no doubt it would be back for season 2. Sadly many factors would seal the fate of the series over it's next season and a half. Hopefully someday the Cannell estate will see fit to remaster the show (and other Cannell series) into HD for the 21st Century and beyond with original music and the 2nd and 3rd season teasers intact. Please correct the errors found in the episodes on the DVD sets and current broadcast and streaming versions so they mirror what was originally seen on ABC.
Happy Birthday TGAH!

I was 10 when the original series aired and fell in love with it then. I just re-discovered it within the last month, and I'm in love with it all over again, and for different reasons. Not just the nostalgia it brings me. I have a whole new appreciation for the writing, the acting, and the premise. While I crushed on William Katt as a young girl, I'm now crushing on Robert Culp as a middle aged woman! I'm going to LA this summer for vacation, and staying just blocks from Ralph's house, and I'm super excited to get to drive by and see the house in person. I wish I had re-discovered the show back in the 2000s, when y'all started this board, because I missed out on all the great discussions. But I love that this is still here and that you, greenguy, are still here to be our expert guide.

I was 14 when the series premiered and I loved it then as I do now. You are so on target about the writing, the acting, and the premise. I don't think the people that watched when they were kids and try to watch it now and dismiss it realize how clever the writing is and how well Katt, Culp, and Sellecca play those roles. Culp has many many female fans that feel exactly the way you do. It's exciting for me to hear that you are traveling to LA this summer. Please let us know how it goes and if you visit any locations besides the Hinkley home. Thank you for the kind words about the forum and myself. Yes it used to be hopping but social media platforms have taken the wind out of it. I've been at it since 1998, and I'll be here until the greenguys come and get me.

I wasn't around to discover the show in its initial run, but did find it years later in reruns. Been a staple for me ever since. And we are still here to talk 98percentkillrate We just need more people around to have these conversations.
