Greetings all,
This is my first post here, but I have been a visitor to this site and board for some time. I think you all have a really good thing going here, and I raise a toast to all of you and the show that brought us together.
I have been a GAH fan since I grew up with it on its first run, and I was there in line to buy Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD the days they first came out (though I am happy to report Season 1 was sold out at Best Buy by lunchtime on its day of release). I have also recently picked up the Japanese Box 2 of the series, and may acquire the others when my budget allows.
Since the very first Friday after I got my hands on Season 1, I have been stopping by my parents' house every Friday after work to show them an episode of GAH. As I am married and have a house with my wife (as well as a pretty busy schedule), this is generally the only time I see my Mom and Dad. They have very much enjoyed watching this show with me, and it's almost as good as being a kid again for me to watch it with them.
We all are very thankful that this wonderful, upbeat show has been resurrected on DVD, and I look forward to the day when I can share GAH with my children. We just watched "Operation: Spoilsport" (the Japanese DVD, with "Eve of Destruction", of course), and it keeps on driving the point home of how timeless. and just morally GOOD this show is.
I hate to begin my posting here on such a mushy note, but I almost teared up during the segment of Bill and Ralph infiltrating the Federal Building and being surrounded by the FBI. (Set to "Eve of Destruction", it is pure magic.) Something just gets to me when I see truly good people (even fictional ones) trying to do their best for the world around them, in spite of the overwelming odds against them, and even though everyone else seems intent to bring them down.
I wish there were more TV shows out there of the caliber of GAH, and I wish there were more heroes to worth holding in your heart and rooting for, like Ralph, Bill, and Pam. If William Katt, Robert Culp, Connie Sellecca, or anyone else associated with show happens to stumble onto this post, I thank you for all of the wonferful memories are still being made to this day of watching your show with my family.
And to the rest of you out there, you better keep an eye on your chrome spinners!
