Here's a question for ya... seeing as I basically stopped watching TV for a while after they axed G.A.H. (call it depression), I'm curious to know, what exactly IS Hardcastle & McCormick? What's it about, etc? Opinions? How many original songs did it have, etc? -Frank

Milton C. Hardcastle is a retired judge from the Los Angeles County Court. Mark McCormick is a ex-race car driver turned thief was Hardcastle's last case. Together their going after 200 cases that walked out of Hardcastle's courtroom on technicalities.
You missed another Cannell series of excellence. The Judge and McCormick run right up there with Ralph and Bill for me. Some music can be heard in the show, but nothing to the extent of what was featured in TGAH. This is the next Cannell series I want to see so bad released on DVD. The pilot also featured Faye Grant!
I always wanted to see a tv reunion, as I do for Riptide. But sadly it will never happen since Brian Keith has already passed away.

Allow me to quote from the show's opening narration: "Milton C. Hardcastle is a retired Judge from the Los Angeles Superior Court. Mark McCormick, an ex-race car driver turned thief, was Hardcastle's last case. McCormick has been placed in the Judge's custody, and together they're going after the two hundred cases that walked out of Hardcastle's courtroom on technicalities."
Cut to Mike Post theme song.
The original theme song was called "Drive" by Geyer and Post, and sung by David Morgan. It was replaced for the first half of season two with a brand new song called "Back to Back", also by Geyer and Post, but sung by Scarbury(!!).
Faye Grant was the lead female guest star in the pilot (damsel in destress, H&M's first case); Robert Culp played a bad guy in the first season episode "School for Scandal".
Patrick Hasburgh was pretty-much in charge and may have had more creative freedom here than in any other SJC production...which is why it rocked!
Did I mention that they fight crime with the aid of their high-tech, one-of-a-kind, prototype, super racecar: The Coyote?
It's times like this that I miss The Eighties...

Thanks J-Man for adding the complete narration. Typing too fast, and the lack of sleep today is taking it's toll...lol. Plus it would help if I would proof read this stuff before I post it. Aw....geez, and I have to go to work again how soon?

There are very few days (if any) that I DON'T miss the 80's. Great replies, guys! Thank you. I SOOO 'tuned out' TV-wise once G.A.H. got axed - and I'm sorry I did now.
Maybe I can catch up at some point, DVD release or otherwise. It just seemed like every show I enjoyed suffered a VERY cruel demise.... G.A.H., Crime Story, the list goes on...

I can barely remember a few of the episodes. One of my favs. was when Judge HC was doing rehearsal with his jazz band and McCormick could not sleep and the police came. I really would like to have the series on a dvd set to refresh my memories.

Yeah, it was another show with witty dialogue, humor, and lots of car chases. Looking back, I think it was likely ABC's response to CBS's The Dukes of Hazzard and NBC's Knight Rider. I'd bet the network brass came to Cannell and said "create us a Car chase action show" and Hardcastle and McCormick was the result. I love H&M. Besides the car stunts the relationship between Judge 'hard-case' Hardcastle and 'skid' Mark McCormick is great. The custom Coyote car is really cool, though when they changed it to the Delorean version in 1984 I was not happy. The show even used some of the music from GAH like the game goes on from the 200mph fastball. If you like GAH then there is a pretty good chance you'll like H&M. I really wish it'd come out on DVD.

I just found the 2nd season lyrics..sung by who else?...Joey Scarbury! Hardcastle and McCormick Back to Back Second Season Theme (1984 - 1986) By Mike Post and Stephen Geyer. Sung by Joey Scarbury Two people in two different worlds Millions of light years apart Two strangers in dangerous times Shootin' it straight from the heart Little by little, we meet in the middle The give and the take never ends It's kinda excitin' this fussin' and fighting Here we go acting like friends Chorus Back to back, over the line We're over our heads, but we're in it together Back to back, {unintelligible} We're takin' one step at a time I had a feelin' the moment we met You were the wrong kind of love You're like a bad habit that I can't forget You've got the right kind of stuff Repeat chorus

{unintelligeable} = "stumbling blind"
you were the wrong kind of love you were the wrong kind of luck.

Can you like, stop drawing lines through my posts? If you see an error could you be a little more polite about it.
It's the 2nd time you did that.
