Hey, it was exactly 22 years ago today that my very favorite episode of "The A-Team" was first broadcast; the first season finale, episode 13, "A Nice Place To Visit", written by Frank Lupo.
In many ways, that night marked the end of the GAH era as well. It was the end of the season that in which GAH was mid-season cancelled. First season "A-Team" had a certain feel to it. You could tell it was made by the same people who made "GAH"; not just the same company, but literally the same people (Cannell, Lupo, Hasburgh). The following season is when SJC Productions began to grow, the core writing/producing talent branched out to different shows, and new guys brought in to fill in the empty spaces. The small company feel would be gone forever. Never again would we see a script credited to the entire in-house writing staff. Everybody writes for everything? Uh-uh; no more. Frank Lupo never wrote a "Hardcastle & McCormick" and Patrick Hasburgh never wrote a "Hunter." We were talking completely seperate departments here.
"The A-Team: A Nice Place To Visit", the end of an era.
I guess seeing the hit car and Ralph's station wagon get shot up in the big fight scene at the end is quite symbolic, indeed.
