I only use Macs, so I thought maybe you guys would know how to help my friend. She is on a PC, Windows XP I think, and her Virus Protection software found a virus, but it can't be deleted.
Is there a trick? Usually on a Mac, if something can't be deleted, when you hold down the "Option" key while deleting, it goes.
Any ideas? Thanks.

I don't know. She said most of her troubles started when she downloaded the latest service pack-whatever that is. My dad had the same experience.

if it is detecting the virus name, google it and see what others are saying, usually you will find manual remaoval instructions on mcafee or nortons website.
files cannot be deleted in windows if they are being used.
usually if you boot into safe mode the anti-virus can remove it then or possibly can even be deleted too.

She should also have spybot and someother adware program.and run all at least once a week. The problem is (esp if the virus was there before the anti-virus was installed or updates that were overdue) the program might not be able to get rid of the virus depending. I had 3 in my computer becuse I didn't update for a very long time. I got out what I could and took it to a compter expert for what I couldn't. So run adware programs too. If she has hot bar I feel sorry. That was doing wonderful things to my computer. There was something Yahoo that wouldn't allow me to open up more than one explorer bar at a time no matter what I did, and everytime it changed I would lose the prior website I was on, (Big Pain) So I disabled it and found the Hotbar in my registry and deleted it and I have been fine ever since...I can't live with just one explorer bar after all... Phhh went the computer! Then I fixed it I was happy again.

Speaking of computer questions, does anyone know of a good audio hosting site? I'm going to be downloading (and eventually purchasing) the software to rip audio tracks from DVDs. I want to make CD from concert videos, and I also want to rip some classic "quotes" as well. Got any ideas?

Phhh went the computer! LOL, msboku, this reminds me of my computer at home. A few months ago, the computer decided to forget my password to this board only . I had to have my username reset and it's still got its moments. Just goes to show computers are actually dumb (and amnesiacs).

I did the same thing, but to my computer. Funny thing is, it's working fine, albeit a bit slower, because of it. Then again, I've also shocked it a couple of times because I built a bit of static electricity, so maybe it's behaving because it hates that.

Ok So what do the flaming folders mean on the threads? That they are very active, and people post a lot in them (well, my best guess). We have quite a few of them here, and I think they start after the third page. Ones with a padlock are locked, meaning no one else can post in them unless the mods unlock them. There are only a few to my knowledge (one moved to another folder, one locked for some reason before I joined, and the GAH Interactive Game Thread, so no one could post after my closing out the story.)

I asked this a long time ago, and my friend ended up gettting a tech or something, but I have a new question, since there are several experts on board. I am trying to copy all of the files off of my father's harddrive, and burn them onto a cd, in the computer's own cd burner. It is a Sony Desktop Vaio, running Windows XP.
This is a very simple thing to do on my Mac, but not on this Vaio. I have followed all of the instructions, which is probably my first mistake. I've chosen the files, chosen 'copy these files', and chosen the destination. Nothing happens. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Get a computer that will easily let you copy?
