Now, that was a fun one!
I was hoping that as the boat pulls away, after Maxwell just finished telling Ralph that there is no such thing as "Cari", Maxwell would see her head sticking out of the water in the distance. The scene could have frozen with Bill sitting upright in his seat with a shocked look, or it could have ended with him calling Ralph back, trying to convince him of what he saw, and Ralph saying, "Very funny, Bill."
Anyway, I'm glad Tony got one more good spill on "thingyie".
Haha! Guess I can't say the guy's name.

Call me crazy (and I'm sure you will), but I loved the cheesy 'Carrie' head at the end. I thought it was a nice touch, but then again the so-called 'monster' in The Shock Will Kill You never bothered me either, so...

I liked the way the Carrie head seemed to be laughing at them, however, the eyeballs...ick.
I still wish Maxwell had seen it over the tip of his glass.

I have a lot of questions about this one. Is this supposed to be the same trip? You are meant to believe so, but why should we believe it? The whole band is down there this time...even though there are new members. I don't believe Tony could barter a waitering job for room and board...that seems unlikely even back then. Plus, the suit is gone. I know we are supposed to think that Bill took it back, but why take it to Ralph's and drop it off? Why not tell him to keep it and bring it back with him since Bill couldn't use it if he needed it anyway? Nice tie-ins to earlier episodes. How people explain away the boats and Katt says things like the Fourth dimension or aliens, both ideas he ironically rejects. Where did the Contrail come from? It could not have been under water because the pressure would have crushed it and done damage. It could not have been trolling around THAT long because it would have run out of gas. I don't see the serpent as coming on board and steering it towards our trio. It was too convenient...I hate that. Was that Katt who really dived off the pier? If so, it was a great dive. As for the band, what happened to Charlie Wylde? Why did they need this London rock producer guy? Why was Rhonda given no credits for her singing this time? In CLASSICAL GAS, she was given props at the end of the episode, but not here. Why? And did Faye Grant ever record professionally like Katt? How did Ralph get out of his clothes with his hands tied AND fly without the three steps? I get the idea...and it was a solid concept overall, but NOT one of Lupo's best. Too bad...it had some potential.

I've wondered something... when Bill joins Ralph and Pam back on the islands, and he goes into the room where Ralph's been plotting on the navigational map, and he's very impressed, he calls it a regular "GHQ." What's the "G" stand for? All I could think of is "General." I think calling it GAHQ would've been funny

And why does that crowd of people keep staring at them like they're TV stars on a location shoot or something?

LOL, reminds me of the trouble Robert Culp said they had when filming in Hong Kong for I Spy. He said Fouad (sp?) finally had to hide cameras in wooden boxes, because the natives would just stand and simply stare all day if not. Even then, they'd stare at this wooden box in the middle of downtown HK.

And why does that crowd of people keep staring at them like they're TV stars on a location shoot or something? They do... and I've never noticed that. Guess story wise, they could play it off as that they didn't want a curious citizen walking on board the ship or a scene of the crime. (reality though, curious citizens of the island wondering why people were filming scenes there). Funny thing is too, I've seen this before. They've done it filming scene for a Spanish movie in San Antonio (years ago, and the post office near the Alamo was turned into a courthouse). Made all curious watchers stand about half a block away while they filmed a big scene there. All I remember was a stunt double having to fall on some cushions half in half out of the fourth floor there.

I always figured the crowd was there to gawk at the ship that was lost and miraculously survived the dreaded DEVIL'S TRIANGLE ooh WEEE ooh!

Come to think of it... did Pam grab Ralph's pants before being thrown off the dinghy into the ocean? I know she had his jacket (more because Connie had to have something cover her wet shirt in the cold water), but still... no pants. Did they just up and steal them from the ship?
I do like the keelhauling bit as well, given Ralph's reaction to it despite wearing the suit. Even the boat being carried by Ralph as he's reeling in the rope is neat too because it shows in a way that he can move big stuff around while flying. Up until then, it was pretty much just people he flew around.

Ok, I hate to say it, but I really hate this photo.
What's up with that hat that Bill wears? And the shirt?
Come on. It's like Bill has a split personality when it comes to clothing. Sometimes he's hot, wearing a great 3 piece suit, or all in black. Then sometimes he's in plaid and hawaiian shirts. I just don't get it.

I think the strangest thing he ever wore in the series was that outfit. Most everything else, including the pirate outfit, looked good on him. Come to think of it... all three overall had very good costume designers. (even though Katt hated the suit, it does look good on him.) In this one, I think Pam gets some of the best outfits, though I wasn't too keen on the outfit she wears when the three get kidnapped. It looked like it was going to fall off of her at any moment. While I know her Halloween costume was just as low cut, it was daring but in a good way. I felt as though the white outfit in this story was just thrown together, and was afraid it would fall apart as the story progressed.

I kinda like the denim cap he's wearing in this ep, actually.
But I know what you mean. I admitted over on Culpalicious, once, that I don't know that much about men's three-piece suits, and are the ones that Bill wears good quality? Silverhammer said they really weren't, lol. Heck, I wouldn't know.
But I favor the three-piece suit look, but best of all is Bill in black.
But I'd die to have one of those blue denim caps, it's so retro 70s.
Mel, you bring up a good point. In the rubber raft, they were barefoot, weren't they? And now they have shoes on.

Been a while since I've seen it, but I'll see if I find out later on tonight. Lately, I'm watching the show again so I could a. get a good night sleep so I wouldn't be too tired to dress up as a character and b. for fanfics, get the characters' voices in my head again.
The cap, ironically, I've seen done as a newsboy-style one at Claire's, but have yet to see one done as a bucket hat. We'll have to wait and see on that. (then again, I need to find the one I got at the Palo Duro Canyon a few years ago.)
But, back OT, I also think Carrie should've been seen by Bill, if nothing else, as a parody of the Devil's Triangle and such. He could've said to he needed to layoff the sauce for a while too, because he was believing Ralph's mumbo jumbo.

Well, there is a short drabble/one shot Fan Fic challenge over on the Culp boards - what would Bill do if he saw Carri?
Join us, Mac. I have a drabble and a half (i.e., 150 words).
He he he.

SCREEN CAP REQUEST!
Kos brings up the question of quality 3 piece suits. There was a nice screen cap that someone did at some point that has Bill, back facing camera, and it is obvious that he sewed up his suit shoulder. It's really a bad job. It's so bad, it's comical.
Who has that?[/tt][/size]

Who else? "Train of Thought""Lilacs, Mr. Maxwell"In all fairness, we have no way of knowing if this was a character-based decision, or a decision based on the budget of the costume department. I could see Culp or one of the writer/producers suggesting that Maxwell would mend and keep the jacket after it was torn. But clearly the jacket wasn't really torn, but carefully unstitched, to facilitate the real-life repair later on.

LOL! That's great! Thanks J-Man. I gotta get you something special for the holidays. You are the best.
It is character based. No doubt. The costume department would have no problem getting gray colored thread. Just as easy as black. And at 50 cents (the running price back in the 80s) it would not have been an issue.
And that is not not sewing thread. That is a bit thicker - more like string. (As a quilter, I can tell...) That was purposeful. "Let's make it look like he sewed it together on his lunch break, before going into Carlisle's office."
Brilliance. Sheer brilliance.

I just noticed this...!
The shoulder gets ripped, and episodes and episodes and episodes later, it still isn't fixed professionally!!
That's great. What confidence. He knows he's the best the bureau has. Who cares about that dress code!
Bill: I don't need no stinking tailor charging me $8 bucks to fix my jacket. Get real!
The question now is - what about that burn mark from the iron that's on his jacket? From Price is Right?? Does that ever show up later?
