**NO SPOILERS (that you haven't already seen in previews, that is) **
Yes, I was one of the lucky ones that got to go to the exhibitor screening for Century Theatres in Marin County (several Skywalker Ranch, ILM, and LucasArts peeps were there).
5 STARS EASILY!!! Lived up to expectations, from beginning to end, Movie of the Year candidate. I'd it wraps up between 98-99 percent of unanswered questions. Very emotional towards the end (Like Titanic? NO! Will it leave you teary eyed? Yes, more than likely!). The movie could've just been the final showdown between Anakin vs. Obi-Wan/Palpatine vs. Yoda alone, and would've still rocked. Everyone here on greatestamericanhero.com, fan or not : WATCH IT!! (I'm going back to watch it w/my peeps on Thursday morning!)
A lot of people rip on the direction the series was going on, but when you look at the story as a whole, it's probably the greatest story ever told cinematically, and this movie had to (and DID) bring together both trilogies. The first trilogy HAD to tell the story of Anakin, Obi-Wan, Palpatine, Padme, the Troopers, the politics of the galactic universe; a move that pissed off critics and casual fans, but the true fans saw the big picture and again, this movie will make people realize the responibility Lucas had on staying true to the biographical story of the spiritual death of Anakin Skywalker, not Anakin doing a Han Solo knock-off with wacky hi-jinks. If you watch the DVD that comes with the Episode 3 soundtrack, you'll actually see why it makes sense that Anakin is first shown as an annoying kid, and shown as his young self in ascended form in Episode 6 (Jar-Jar was a horrible move, no matter how you look at it, though).
R2 probably does his best stuff in this movie.
Didn't get to see the Mace Windu of the CloneWars cartoons, but, he's still Mace.
Grievous is a little weaker than when we first see him (see the CloneWars to see how he gets to his current state), but still twirls 4 sabers.
Seeing the Palpatine we know and love of Episode 6 is sooooo bad-ass!!
Poor Count Dooku!
Jar-Jar is barely on screen for 10 seconds(10 seconds too long) and has no lines(Yay!). Sorry guys, Anakin doesn't behead him.
Best LightSaber anything of the whole series.
As usual, John Williams delivers!!
If you been in a creative or motivational slump this movie is a wake-up call to not give up on filmaking. Even if you don't like Star Wars at all, watch this movie and it will make you want to watch and appreciate ALL the films (not just 4-5-6). The whole theatre applauded, and not one person came out saying anything bad about it (unlike episodes 1 and 2). It's that damned good!
BTW, make sure you watch the Clone Wars cartoon Vol. 1 and 2 BEFORE you see this, to see how they get to where they are at the beginning of the movie. It will also explain how Anakin improved his Jedi mastery in 3 years since Episode 2.
If anyone else has seen it already, please discuss.
