To be honest with you, I'm just not into TV anymore. I can't think of 1 show I watch on a regular basis. I've been watching a lot of older films on TCM lately. There was a time, years ago, when I could tell you what show was on what channel at any given time. Seems like everything is reality TV or crime drama re-hash. The only exception is "Lost". I have heard so much about it, that I am going to rent the DVD's from Netflix. Other than that, NOTHING peaks my interest. Have you noticed how Hollywood is dry in the original ideas department lately? If I see one more TV show re-made into a movie, I'm gonna puke!I totally agree with you on the remakes. There have been three I know of that, though changed slightly, fit in with the originals, the aforementioned "Maverick," "The Avengers" and "The Saint." The problem with "The Avengers" for the general viewers was that they tried to match it too closely, and ended up making Steed and Mrs. Peel too cool and collected. It did lack some of the humor, save for Patrick MacNee's performance as the invisible agent and Connery's role which I liked as it fit in with several of the bad guy roles in the series. I thought "The Saint" was good too, although it lacked some of that subtle humor as well (I vaguely remember watching an episode of this series).
As far as TV today, I'm like you, I don't watch much of it. You ask me my top five favorite shows, and only one ("Doctor Who") has a series in production. (In case you're wondering, they are in order, "GAH," "Emergency!, (tied)" "Doctor Who, (tied)" "The Wild, Wild West" and "The Monkees.") I think that a lot of shows just either do the same thing or are too much sex, violence and gore. There need to be some family shows that everyone can watch. The shows I listed had that value in them, making them timeless. Some of these shows, I don't think will be remembered as well 20 or more ("WWW" and "Doctor Who" span at least 40) years later.
