I unfortunately don't have a link to the story, but I read an AP story in the paper today and right now they're apparently scouting for locations to film a movie version of "Dallas." Well, right now there are several cities trying to get the movie filmed there. Of couse, Dallas is vying for it, but so are cities in other parts of the country and even Canada. What I got a kick out of is that the film commissioner in Florida said that he didn't think that "authenticity plays a big role" in the filming. Funny thing is Southfork Ranch still exists in Dallas, and for the most part is still the way it was back when they filmed the show. They even have bedrooms devoted to the characters and of course still have the famous pool. Not only that, if they did film part of it in an area to resemble the Dallas skyline, how would they get around a couple of the famous landmarks in the skyline (well, beyond stock footage and bluescreen). Not that there's anything wrong with filming a movie in a location outside the place it's supposed to be (the final scene in "Indiana Jones in the Last Crusade" was filmed at a ranch in West Texas), but I guess to me anyway, it seems to film it elsewhere would be silly and obvious. If you didn't see certain locations, you'd know it wasn't filmed there. Seems to me that it'd be best to film it where everything is, but that's just my two cents. So, what do you guys think?

I think that it would be fine to have it filmed in Canada...there are a lot of studios up there that produce several shows and have for years. In fact, it would probably be better except for all of the EH?s after every sentence.

I've lived in Texas all but two years of my life, and while I've never been outside the US, I do use "eh" sometimes at the end of a sentence. Canada might work because it is more country than the other places suggested, but somehow, it just doesn't ring quite as true to me. And, with Southfork still around, it would save money on construction. (Well, at least they're trying to keep it close to the show... I think).

I read in the paper today that they have sent out offers for their dream cast:
John Travolta - J.R. Ewing Luke Wilson - Bobby Ewing Shirley MacLaine - Miss Ellie Jennifer Lopez - Sue Ellen
Sounds like another travesty. My mother was addicted to "Dallas" but I don't think she'll be going to the theater or renting this at Blockbuster...

My mother was addicted to "Dallas" but I don't think she'll be going to the theater or renting this at Blockbuster... I was the same way with "The Wild, Wild West." Wish they'd release the series on DVD to show what the true show was. While I've never been a huge fan of "Dallas" (parents prefered "Knotts Landing") I think some of the suggestions are silly for locations. Florida is one of the biggest ones to me as there might be palm trees in the shoot. Dallas doesn't have them, and nothing can match the Dallas skyline (well, save Houston's). If they had to shoot it elsewhere besides the true city, Canada would be the closest to the landscape of Texas. But, just my two cents. (Also Travolta for JR? I don't think he'd have the same panache as Larry Hagman in the role.)

Travolta is getting a trifle old too, don't you think? If it would be someone older, how about Mel Gibson or someone along those lines? J. Lo, huh?

If I remember Sue Ellen right, she had that country girl next door charm. J. Lo., while pretty, has more of a city charm. Don't know about Mel Gibson as JR, though, but, he'd probably would bring a lot of laughs to the set.

They really need to get off of the remake kick they're on lately. With very few exceptions, all have come up short, with some being a real travesty (Dukes of Hazzard come to mind...).
And...what the...J Lo? *shudders*
