I remember hearing my classmates talking about the first ep. way back then when I was in the 11th grade, you know, back when dinosaurs still roamed the earth. Anyway they were talking about something to do with trash bags and Murdoch and they seemed to think that it was very funny. I've watched some A Team but never the first one. So what was that about, does anyone know?

This was not in the first episode. It was in a first season episode called PROS AND CONS. Murdock (this is the correct spelling by the way) poses as a nutjob in prison so he can collect trash bags, which he and Hannibal then use for an escape. My wife loves Murdock in this episode too. It is worth watching, especially if you ever pick up the series on DVD.

Sorry. Just have to let my inner Murdock out every once in a while.

Second episode filmed, third episode aired; first episode to air in their regular Tuesday night time slot (the first two episodes broadcast were shown on Sunday night to build an audience before going head-to-head with then-powerhouse "Happy Days"). Of note to GAH fans, the credits for the pilot and this episode are done in the same "font" as GAH. The next two episodes are done in a kind of nondescript font, and beginning with episode five someone finally came up with the idea that military style stencil lettering was the way to go for The A-Team's credits. But, back to the topic on hand, Episode Two, "Pros and Cons". www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJVtoAztBbQ

"This video has been removed due to terms of use violation."
Damn, and I was just about to point out that the lady Psychiatrist was played by Elsa Raven, co-star of "Back to the Future" and SJC's "Wiseguy"; and that the Prison Guard was played by Paul Koslo, guest star of GAH's "Hog Wild".
I wonder who from Universal or Cannell Productions is trolling this board just to fashter our simcha.

It probably wasn't from someone HERE. Not to mention that Red West was in the episode too as Lt. Trask.

(the first two episodes broadcast were shown on Sunday night to build an audience before going head-to-head with then-powerhouse "Happy Days"). Superbowl night, Dallas vs Pittsburgh. I was at my uncle Doug's house. I remember how awesome A team was. And Dallas won, I think.

I don't remember a darn thing about the Super Bowl, except that the second episode (broadcast order) was supposed to air, in it's entirety, immediately after the game, no matter how late it ended; so I must have been half-watching it just to make sure I didn't miss the 'Team. "The A-Team (Children of Jamestown)" started at exactly 10:15pm, New Jersey time.

And, while we're on the subject of "Children of Jamestown", did you ever notice how much extra dialog was looped into that episode to stress that Martin James is a crazy lunatic who has nothing to do with "real" Christianity? Some network "suit" must've got nervous and made them put all that in after the fact, lest the episode be seen as a condemnation of Christianity or organized religion in general.
Specifically, I'm talking about Peppard's narration at the very beginning of the episode (he sounds like a radio disc jockey, trying to squeeze all that in in the alloted time), and the "This has nothing to do with Christianity..." exchange between Hannibal and Amy (also at super-speed while momentarily off-screen) when the team is locked up at James' compound.

So, I just pulled out the ol' DVD of "Children of Jamestown" and watched the first 15 minutes or so, and I just have to say, with at least two other episodes in the can and ready to go, what a brilliant idea it was for the network to air this, the fourth episode filmed, as the second episode broadcast.
They knew that it was going to air at approximately 10:00pm on a Sunday night, to a potentially huge and revved up audience that had just finished watching the Superbowl, and most of whom had to go to work or school the next morning. They knew that, even to people who had seen and loved the two hour pilot, this would be the first exposure to a regular one hour episode. Rather than go with the more standard and protoformulaic "Pros and Cons" or "The Rabbit That Las Vegas", they hit us with the unusually action-packed "CoJ" which opens with the Team already deep into their current case, with a fight scene and a chase scene all in the first few minutes; a very fast-paced episode with plenty of A-Team wackiness and Cannell brilliance. Cannell gives us a bad guy unlike any we've ever seen on TV before (or since?) in Reverend Martin James, and John Saxon plays the role to perfection. Cannell and Co. absolutely knock it out of the park with this "second" episode in a way that I don't think they could have with the actual second (or third) episode, especially considering the timeslot and the audience they were playing to.

Good call, J-Man. I have always loved that episode too. And believeitornot, they formed them into several hot air balloons and escaped that way...it is the easiest explanation without a picture or a video of it.
