Quite a shocking thread. ;D Was Ralph Hinkley - in his red jammies attire - seen as a sort of "sex symbol" by female audience in the eighties? Just wondering. Ralph apart, is William considered "handsome" by women's standards?

To some he is, especially if you read enough of Ms. B's posts.

G'day, lovely TGAH peeps. I'm back. *waves* ;D In answer to this topic's question: Ralph Hinkley was my very first fan-girl crush when I was a kid. That long-dormant crush was re-kindled when I bought the TGAH DVDs earlier this year. That then extended to a William Katt crush, so I ended up buying DVDs of some of his other work. My Mum really likes him, too! Feel the love. dolfyn.

Sorry, not at all! I mean, geez, you've got this broad shouldered, 6'2", brown on brown Fed standing over him--sorry, Katt wasn't in competition for sexiness compared to Culp! Mona

I think beauty and sexiness are in the eyes of the beholder. You'll see strong opinions either way based on fandoms here. Physically, I see all three of the actors as attractive to members of the opposite sex. They all exude sexiness, what levels again (high or low) depend on who your favorite actor is. But, when I look at this, I also add other factors into what I see sexiness as: how well they treat others, generosity, level of intelligence, etc. Going by these factors, I can say that Katt is one who fits that definition. I have read about and seen his generosity toward fans and others: Doing the video greetings to us on the board (and for free), talking to a fan's friend on the phone briefly to say "hi," asking Ms B for my return address so he could send me an autograph (which I was not expecting one bit), signing everything Lauren sent him one time, etc. All of these he didn't have to do, but he did because he wanted to. His intelligence shows too in working with SJC to get a "GAH" comic out as well as the animated shorts. Not only that, he shows humbleness in that he never says that he's the one who got it off the ground - he makes sure that everyone is given the credit they deserve. To me, both are seen as sexy. Too often, we see actors who outside they look attractive and exude sexiness, but inside are ugly. They are rude to fans, demand things done for them, don't care about others or themselves, etc. When they do that, their true nature shows and I don't see them as sexy. Katt appreciates what his fans do for him, and that is something that is very rare and something that to me reads as true beauty. That showed quite a bit when he actually took the time to hand address my envelope - something you rarely see nowadays in the industry, any age of actor.

"I bet the rack in the dungeon is just lovely.." Well it was for me! ;D Someone has to bring the good Counselor into this. Since HD is asleep at the wheel, I shall. On a serious note, I have to agree with Mel on this. A lot of times people go on outward looks and appearance, sometimes obsessing on just that. There are other strong points to a character that can make them.. maybe not sexy, but attractive. When the trio were on screen, you could always count on Pam either trying to cool heads if Bill and Ralph were arguing about a situation, devising a plan herself in The Price is Right plus holding her own against folks like the BB Gun and Starlett. She's also had some good one-liners thrown in that are noteworthy..

All 3 leads are definitely attractive, each in their own way. But I also have to agree with Mel when it comes to my own personal view of attractiveness. In fact, one of the reasons I've been absent from this forum for a while is because I've been caught up in the activities of my other favourite actor, Simon Pegg. Just like our beloved Mr Katt, Simon is lovely & generous with his fans (he said recently that he prefers to call us "friends" instead of "fans"), is funny & talented, & is therefore attractive on the inside as well as the outside. So yeah, William Katt wins out for me because of his looks, his talent & his real personality. Feel the love. dolfyn. ;D

Claye, I wasn't asleep. I was just hoping by now that everyone would realize that the ONLY sexy person on the show was Pam. ;D

I've really enjoyed your opinions on the subject, but my original question was slightly different: BY THE GENERAL PUBLIC's perspective (not shouting, just stressing), was Katt/Ralph a sex symbol? You girls are big fans... I'm wondering about the "casual girls" of the eighties.

Well, you should probably ask that on a general talk forum instead of one dedicated to a show with him as one of the principal characters. And Mel: Even girls can recognize that Pam was the ONLY sexy person on the show. Just because all the girls here are in denial...

You girls are big fans... I'm wondering about the "casual girls" of the eighties. You might go to the William Katt forum to have this answered: www.kattforum.proboards82.com There are several clippings from magazines that he appeared in as well as links to things such as TV ads he did for Kirin Light Beer. And, in the '70s, he was listed as one of the ones to watch as far as the industry. Overall, I'd say that there was definitely some consideration of him as a sex symbol of the time. That said, I was rather young when "GAH" was first on so I can't really assess that from an '80s viewpoint.

A lot of people are like that though in the industry and then amount to nothing or amount to less than was expected. Plus, being someone to watch and being a sex symbol are vastly different.

What I mean is he could've been considered a sex symbol of sorts in the general public given some of the photoshoots he did. And, he definitely had the looks to do some of the more... uh mature movies he did. But, I also am a child of the '80s, not an adult, so I can only really estimate that status in the general public. My personal opinion is different though.

Well, you should probably ask that on a general talk forum instead of one dedicated to a show with him as one of the principal characters. It always amuses me that people separate the opinions of fans from other people. You either like someone's work or you don't; fans are just more enthusiastic about liking it. I personally don't let that make me into a blind follower, though. Even girls can recognize that Pam was the ONLY sexy person on the show. Just because all the girls here are in denial... I would never deny that Pam was the sexiest WOMAN in the show; she is definitely gorgeous. IMHO, she's no more or less sexy that Mr Katt. But as for personal attraction, I find WK to be the sexiest one in the show. I think WK would've reached a more defined "sex symbol" status if he'd done more romantic/action leading-man roles, rather than some of the dodgy stuff he ended up doing. Feel the love. dolfyn.

Dolfyn: You need help. Pam was way sexier than Katt...for men and women. Agreed though about some of his work choices. He might have made a bigger impact on the industry if he had not done some things. *Cough*PROBLEM CHILD 3*Cough* As for separating from fans, it makes sense. A lot of the fans gush about his good looks and the innuendo is very prevalent. If you asked people who are not as big of fans (at least to the same degree as some here), you would get a more varied reaction. I think it is important to ask both sets, but on a forum like this, it is much more likely that people will find him a sex symbol than if you asked about him on a KNIGHT RIDER forum or something.

Dolfyn: You need help. Pam was way sexier than Katt...for men and women. Considering I'm not attracted to women in that way, I'd need help if I thought Pam was sexier than Katt! Anyway, I think you're deflecting your obvious long-held deep desire to have Katt's babies. I'm just saying.... Agreed though about some of his work choices. He might have made a bigger impact on the industry if he had not done some things. *Cough*PROBLEM CHILD 3*Cough* Yes, it's a crying shame. Feel the (Katt) love. dolfyn. ;D
