Mr. William Katt,
As I am sure you can tell from reading these messages, THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO has quite the lasting impression on people. Be it for the stories, the chemistry of the leads, or just the all-around good feeling people get from it, people around the world seem to have an affinity for this show and the memories it brings back for them.
I did not see the show in the original run, although both of my parents remember it with varying degrees of fondness. I did not see it until it was in syndication on FX years later. It was part of the Action Adventure Afternoon along with WONDER WOMAN and the original BATMAN series with Adam West. I happened to be home from school one day for some reason and saw it advertised as coming on next. Since I had never seen it, I thought I would watch it and see what I thought.
Ironically, the first episode I ever saw was the pilot for THE GREATEST AMERICAN HEROINE, which was added to the syndication as the final episode of the series. I was definitely surprised to go from HEROINE to the pilot episode the next day. ;D It was a pleasant surprise overall. While I have become a huge fan of the series, I am probably one of the only few who did not mind HEROINE that much.
Over the years, I have continued to look for this series in DVD format or in syndication. I was very pleased to see that the series was released a few years ago and that included HEROINE as well as some great interviews from cast and crew.
(You probably see them more than we do, so it would be great if you could pass the thanks of every fan on to Robert Culp, Connie Sellecca, Stephen J. Cannell, Michael Pare, and Mike Post for taking time out to do interviews). It was great to hear you talking about the series again and answering questions that fans had asked for years.
I, like others, have watched the series several times again now and at our own choosing rather than those of corporate television America. We are delighted to have the chance to relive this great classic even if some of the things have changed over time, such as the royalties not being paid for the music that made some episodes so memorable to so many people. I am not sure if you have the series or not, but it would be interesting to hear your perspective on the music changes and see if they have changed the series or not on DVD.
It is great to see that you and the rest of the cast are still currently working and enjoying your lives (from what we can see) and still have fond memories of THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO. We have chatted a lot on this forum about your works, especially your upcoming work revolving around the series. For someone who was not happy with "the suit" during the series at times on a personal level outside the character, it shows a lot of love for the series and a realization of what people love to reunite with the character.
We are all looking forward to the release of the animated shorts. It will be nice to hear the original team back together again and working on a series that has so many hardcore fans out there. The comic books will be very interesting too, especially if they are telling new stories that never had a chance to be told during the series run. It would be neat to see some comics written that tie up loose ends as well. ;D
(I know that I am curious about the possibility of the comics and the animated shorts exploring some venues of HEROINE, but I know the majority of fans out there have no desire to see that).I know that there are a lot of people excited about the possibility of a movie coming out for THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO, although most of us are cautious about endorsing it. We are very excited to see that Stephen J. Cannell will be involved and that he wants each of the original three (at the very least) to be involved with acting in the movie and not merely supporting or cameo roles in the production. Naturally, we all have our thoughts on who should play the characters as we have studied them in-depth...and especially since it is unlikely that three of you will be the stars of the movie sadly enough. We look forward to hearing more about all of the endeavors that are happening around bringing THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO back into the mainstream.
I wanted to thank you for taking the time to read these messages and be at conventions and such for fans. We have had a few people from this forum meet you and they always talk about how personable and such you are at these things. That is very encouraging and definitely makes people want to meet you. I hope one day to get to meet you as well, although I will have to travel to meet you since I doubt that you will be traveling to where I live just to meet me.
Granted, and please do not take offense, but you are not top on my list of people to meet, even from THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO realm. Topping my list would be my favorite character from the series, the lovely and talented Connie Sellecca who did a masterful job of portraying Pamela Davidson. After all, how can you resist her? ;D
And in honor of Halloween coming up tomorrow for us Americans:
So while it would be great to meet you, I don't suppose you could pass it along to Connie that it would be great if she could get out to more conventions and meet more of her fans across the country and the world could you? I figure you see her more often than most people since you all have worked together and will be working together again. If you could manage that, it would be great and thanks in advance. ;D
As you can hopefully see from this post and this thread in general, THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO is an American television institution for some of us and we want to pass on our thanks and appreciation to you and everyone involved in bringing it back to the public eye. We wish all of you involved the best of luck and know that you will continue to have fans of the series here as long as this forum is around.
I am sure that you and your fellow colleagues do not get online much for this sort of thing since you are all so busy, but if you get the chance, it would be great if you all stopped by the forum one day and said HI. It would definitely excite all of us and help boost the morale of us who might never get the chance to meet any of our favorite actors/actresses. Even if that is not possible or not something you would like to do, please know that you have a safe haven of fans out there on the internet and that we will continued to be involved with THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO in whatever way we can.
I hope you enjoy your trip to the land down under. Have a great time and we hope you enjoy your messages. Thank you once again.
Derek
