I don't know if this will help you out, but I think the boots were a short red shoe with a type of boot spat over them and not a complete pair of boots. You might be able to cheat a bit and use a pair of red canvas shoes with red laces, wrapping a bit of grey (or black) ribbon around the white rubber edges as the main part of the shoe. The bottom part of the shoe won't be a problem unless people pay attention to the soles. For the spats, you can cut the bottom part of the heel and toe of a pair of long red tube socks to the shape of the boot spats (or if you'd rather have a third season style, the entire sole of the sock.) Then on the edges you could use a bit of grey bias tape (found in sewing notions) around the cut edges of the sock as well as the top. You'd then put the shoes on first then slip the socks over the shoes, covering up the laces. This may sound like a bit of work, but it could work in a pinch. We used to do this in theater at my high school, and it worked well. Also, have fun at your appearance. I was in a similar situation once, when I was in college I had to appear in as the mascot at a Wal-Mart. It was fun until I accidentally ran into a column. Didn't hurt, but I was embarrassed.

ok Now i just want to buy some red cowboy shoes. Everything else has failed. I've dyed. stripped and everything. Any help would be great Well, if my idea above didn't work, why not try wearing red socks over canvas shoes or sandals? You should be able to find both at a Wal-Mart. I've seen the red canvas shoes there, and you might have to get the red socks from the women's department. I had no problem using this trick when I participated in an outdoor church event. We did a walk through the Bible event in the winter, and being as cold as it is here, you can't go around barefoot. The only problem with doing this is if you're going to be walking around a lot on tile as you could slip. (Come to think of it, you might be able to find slipper socks that would work as they have the traction. I'm pretty sure they would have some in the women's department, and would have them in red.) Other than that, I don't know what else there is except finding red boots, which are going to be hard to find. Hope this helps.

Everything is coming along great. Dyed the canvas shoes red. Now all I have to do is add the white strips at the bottom. I'll keep you posted girl. And thanks for the ideas and everything.

Everything is coming along great. Dyed the canvas shoes red. Now all I have to do is add the white strips at the bottom. I'll keep you posted girl. And thanks for the ideas and everything. Glad to be of help, and glad the dyed shoes are working well. But you need to have grey or black around the bottom edges of the shoes, as the soles of the original shoes were black. You could use a black Sharpie to cover the white rubber trim on the edges. I originally suggested black or grey ribbon, but realized this would be just as easy and produce the same results. You don't have to worry about the bottom of the soles, unless they may show in a pic. (I may be a bit confused, unless it's the stirrups of the boots you're referring to, if so, ignore this. ) Look forward to seeing how they turn out. I know how frustrating it is to make a clothing project from scratch, even if it's just updating something. I recently decorated a denim jacket with ties for a fair project, and had a couple of minor mishaps. Though it was a bit difficult and took two days to finish, I won a blue ribbon for it. Now I just have to wait 'til it's cold enough to wear it.
