Last weekend, I found a boxset at a local DVD store, containing the complete TV series of the original "Outer Limits" (1963-1965). The price was reasonable enough, so I just couldn't resist buying it, as I had never before seen any episode of this vintage sci-fi series.
Anyway, I've now watched several episodes already, and I think it's terrific! Some of the special effects are of course quite dated, but the storylines are top-notch. Some episodes are real gems. I'm fast becoming a fan of this TV series.
I'm just wondering if any of you are familiar with this show, and if any of you are fans?

Yep, thats a favorite series of mine too. The Culp episodes are pretty good, especially Demon with a Glass Hand. I love the fact it was shot in B&W, just fits with the subject matter. Like any series, you will find some clunkers but its a very cool show to watch.

Most fans online seem to agree that it's one of the highlights of the whole series. I did however see the other Culp episode "The Architects Of Fear", which is very good. I agree that the B&W really adds something. If it were in color, "something" would be lost, in my opinion. The producers were often aiming for a "film noir" sort of feel, which is of course helped by the B&W.

No matter how good a episode was it just did "feel" like The Outer Limits.

I have seen part of Culp's "Demon" ep and yes, it's very eerie and creepy. He did a very good job in it - probably one of my favorite from that series.
And, regarding black and white, I noticed the same thing with "Twilight Zone" - the black and white looks better and fits well. I don't think the spaceship story in "TZ" with Leslie Nielsen and Ross Martin would've had the same impact if it were in color. The only time I've seen a B&W that didn't work was the first season of "The Wild, Wild West." Given it's campy and steampunk style (yes, even in the original series - they exaggerated it in the movie), it was more enjoyable in color.

The black-and-white certainly helps the "creepiness" in old shows like The Outer Limits and The Twilight Zone.
Some great OL episodes that I've seen so far: "The Man Who Was Never Born" and "The Bellero Shield", both starring Martin Landau. Real gems!
Some episodes not quite in the same category, but very entertaining all the same: "The Zanti Misfits" (very famous episode, featuring those giant ants with human-like faces) and "Specimen Unknown" (about those deadly flowers discovered on board a space station, who multiply astonishingly fast------similar to "Day Of The Triffids").

I've never yet had the chance to see Rod Serling's series "Night Gallery", though. I wonder if episodes are available on YouTube?
