I agree Marci - and oddly enough, when they said a "Designing Woman" cast member passed, I thought it might've been her. Not sure why exactly, but it's sad.
We're losing the good actors and have a bunch of egomaniacs in the youth now. I wonder exactly how many of these newbies will have the acting chops that most of these older actors have had throughout their lives. Only makes any actor's passing sadder.

"Lilacs, Mr. Maxwell" was the very first thing I remember seeing her in. It was such a profound episode that I was actually surprised when she didn't return as a regular cast member the following season (perhaps some of my surprise was due to the naivete* of my 14 year old self). Regardless, "GAH" was what put Ms. Carter on my radar; that's why I was delighted to see her turn up as Mr. Drummond's new girlfriend/wife on "Diff'rent Strokes" about 3 years later.
I am a little surprised to read that she was only seventy years old. That would mean she was my age when she appeared on "GAH". I don't know; when I look in the mirror, I don't see a contemporary of a "GAH"-era Dixie Carter. So somebody has been kidding somebody (and, in all fairness, it could very well be me).

It's a shame when people die for any reason. My thoughts go out to her friends and family.

Likewise, I remember her mainly for Diff'rent Strokes and then her time on Designing Women. I think "Lilacs, Mr. Maxwell" was one of the few episodes I don't remember seeing when TGAH had it's run here.
