Such a shock, I don't even know where to start. For those of us in our mid 40's or close to 50 we grew up on the man's series. He provided us with so many hours of entertainment.
I was lucky enough to meet him once, great slap happy guy. 5 hours later when seeing him again he greeted me with "Hey Scott" which considering all the people he had met that day I was a bit surprised he remembered my name.
His run here on Earth ended too soon, but not a bad run considering he was a guy some thought would never amount to anything.
R.I.P. Mr. Cannell

I just posted this on the facebook page from William. It is with our deepest regrets that we mourn the loss of our great and dear friend, Stephen J Cannell. He was a great talent, very dedicated and a wonderful family man. He will be missed. We ask that you take a moment of silence to remember him and all he accomplished in his life and shared with us. He truly is the Greatest American Hero.

HUGE SHOCK. Saw this at work today and I lept up out of my chair, it really rattled me, way moreso then Robert Culp's passing. I met Cannell 3 times at different book signings and even got the chance to watch an episde of GAH and A-Team with him at one signing. My co-workers had no clue to who Cannell was until I described the famous typewriter logo. Cannell was only 69 and although I noticed in recent pics he seemed like he lost weight and not as healthy looking as before, I chalked it up to age, I figured it was because him reaching the late 60s makes one look considerably different then their early or mid 60s. But 69 was still a very "young old". This guy was my hero and a source of endless childhood/youthful entertainment. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. R.I.P. Stephen J. Cannell I'll be throwing a piece of typewritten paper up in the air this weekend in your memory sir.

Marci called me and let me know - It's been busy here I haven't been able to post much on the boards, let alone read them.
Cannell probably will be best remembered for "The A-Team," but I got to know him for "Greatest American Hero," the first show I remember ever watching on TV.
He was a creative genius, and could think up more ideas than what we see in today's industry. There are not many people like he was, and his talent - and from what I'm reading humor, will be greatly missed.
I'm sure there is probably something else that he did prior to his passing on TV, but this is the last thing I remember seeing him in on TV - ironically as himself in "Castle," a show that in itself is genius IMHO. Seeing this, you'd never guess he was fighting cancer:

I was in Yahoo chat when I saw someone post that SJC had passed away, so I had to come here to catch the latest information. How very sad! RIP, SJC MelMac, I'd say "Rockford Files" is what he'll be remembered most from, much as I love GAH. I didn't even know he did RF till I joined this board! Thank you, Mr. Cannell, for all the entertainment, and the joy you brought to Mom with Jim Rockford!

Late to this thread but I just now found out. Totally unexpected, at least to me; I did not know he was ill.
Rest in Peace.

I read about this on Facebook yesterday, thanks to Marci. I'm totally gobsmacked! This is a devastating loss to all who grew up in the '70s & '80s, watching all Mr Cannell's wonderful shows. He truly was a genius writer, & from all accounts a lovely guy. Condolences to his family. R.I.P. Mr Cannell. Thanks for all the adventures & fun. Feel the love. dolfyn.
