I recently found this 1981 issue of US Magazine on Ebay, with an interview with Bill Katt, having just started GAH. Very charming read!
;D
Of course the article does make the typical photo caption error. There's a shot of Katt, Connie Sellecca and Faye Grant (who played Rhonda). But the caption reads "Co-star Sellecca, Katt and his wife Debbie (r) scan the horizon for superheroes, although Hero's early ratings indicated no need to fear."
Oops, lol. Cute caption line though!
"At first I was embarrassed to wear that costume because it's so hideous. Ralph and I relate tremendously because we hated to put it on...Things have changed. I feel better because I understand we're not trying to be a Wonder Woman or Six Million Dollar Man. Hero's being done tongue-in-cheek."
Katt grew up like the character he played in Big Wednesday--in a comfortable, carefree southern California way. Beaching and sleeping in his car at Malibu; wild parties; weekends in Mexico--Katt did it all. Time spent at Orange Coast College, he confesses, "was to study surfing and music."
His contract guarantees him free weekends, which he spends with his family..."It's a real grounding point having a family...I try and spend as much time as I can with Clayton because we have a really good relationship. We like each other."
"I've learned a lot and I feel more comfortable with myself having gone through a lot of disapointments. I no longer reach for the stars because I've mellowed."
What's in his (super) heroic future? "I'm just going to do what I've been doing for the time being. When the series is over, then I'll worry. Maybe I'll get so rich, I'll retire. Or maybe," he smiles, "I won't do anything!"
