Last night over the phone my boyfriend and fellow fan fiction writer was telling me his thoughts over the fan fiction I just wrote for GAH. While he was telling me what he thought about the story it became clear fast he didn't really remember having watched the series. He told me he watched it back when it was on the Sci Fi channel which today is the SyFy channel. I have the impression likely when he saw GAH on the channel it was likely back in the 90's when it first started up. I started watching the channel in roughly mid-99', and I remember for a few years, the channel would have mini marathons of old sci fi shows. Just wondering was the start of the website linked to the forum, have to do with the sci fi channel, likely airing the show back in '98?

You'd have to ask Greenguy about that - he's the admin. There was another board he or MyTatuo created, but then went to this one. It's sadly no longer functioning (at least last time I checked). I do remember them showing it for a time on Sci-Fi (before the crazy spelling they've done now ) and then a year or two ago as part of a Fourth of July showing.

TGAH aired on the SyFy Channel twice that I'm aware of. The first time was in July of 2010 on the 4th. Traditionally the channel always aired The Twilight Zone all day on that date, Zone fans were up in arms their series was not on, and the channel has stuck with TZ ever since. At some point after that date, they ran a partial days worth of episodes, and after that not at all. At least I'm not aware of any other showings. TGAH has never been a regular part of their schedule. In the U.S., the series has only ran nationwide on ABC, WGN, FX, Retro TV Network, and twice on SyFy. Although, the pilot only was broadcast nationally as a one night special airing on The Family Channel (originally CBN, and now ABC Family) years ago. The original forum had nothing to do with the SyFy channel, and was just sponsored by a company that no longer hosts forums. When I first started the site, I had it hosted for free on GeoCities. As I at the time was not well versed in html, I took on TGAH fan Max Sommers as a partner, I supplied the content and he maintained the site. At some point after I started, another TGAH fan approached me, and offered the use of a message board from a company he was affiliated with called Server Corporation. In 2000, yet another TGAH fan MyTatuo, offered the use of a private server to host the site. He took over the design as Max moved onto other things, while I still provided the content. At some point during those years we moved onto using proboards as we outgrew the other forum although it could still be accessed. Eventually it was shut down all together by the company. Moving forward, I eventually moved the site off the private server and it's hosted by another party now, and I pretty much handle everything solo, except the forum which Maxwell FBI (another long time TGAH fan and friend can tap into) So that's the site history, except for the fiasco that caused me to lose the original domain name greatestamericanhero.com, which just comes down to miscommunication. I found a archived page of the old forum, if anyone is interested: web.archive.org/web/20010203141300/http://www.greatestamericanhero.com/main.htm

Greenguy - I do remember seeing some of the shows on YouTube with "Action" in the bottom right hand corner. Do you remember where those might've been showing on? I'd guess WGN given they have a tendency to do extra words to describe shows, but given the past few days... I wouldn't be surprised if way off. And thank you for sharing some of the archived information - I do remember reading the old message boards and suffice to say - beyond other aspects, this one is a lot easier to follow.

Mel, the episodes or clips with the ACTION logo at the bottom is from SHOWCASE ACTION out of Canada. I just didn't include those since it's Canada and not the U.S.
That's one reason I subscribed to Canadian satellite television for 4 or 5 years, this was before the series was released on DVD. While some Canadian channels aired U.S. series uncut, sadly SHOWCASE ACTION was not one of them.
You are welcome for the archive link.

In fairness, the few I've seen from there do at least have the original music. Seriously the only replacement I didn't even notice - and it may have improved the scene (though yes I didn't like any of the changes) was replacing "Pinball Wizard" with the instrumental for "Wizards and Warlocks" when Ralph is playing "Dungeons and Dragons." ;D I didn't watch the series from when it last aired (the last episode I remember watching was "Resurrection of Carlini" in Cloudcroft, N.M. because we had to watch it in the lodge and pay $1.00 to watch it - pay per view TV there, lol, and it was the water torture trick), until the DVDs came out. The show had such an impact on me though when I found it was coming out on DVD I went to the store a day EARLY to get it. Store was really nice though, so I took the half hour delay on my trip home (I was on vacation) to go to that particular store, get it and go back.

Yep, those SHOWCASE ACTION broadcasts do have all the original music intact.
It did not start airing with the music replacements here in the states until after the DVDs were released. At least to the best of my knowledge. However, in the current syndication package at least the original music in Operation: Spoilsport has been retained. All other episodes music wise are the same as the DVDs.
I'm sure if the show is running anywhere outside the states, those episodes should have the original tunes.
LOL...paying to watch the show in N.M. is a new one on me!
I ran right out and bought the first season set in the early AM hours on it's release date even though Anchor Bay was sending me a case for free..LOL

Not related, but sort of with the last reply.
A few years back to put it short a disaster struck and in saving my things, my DVD collection was saved but the boxes weren't. If I contacted Anchor Bay, do you think they'd replace a case?

If I contacted Anchor Bay, do you think they'd replace a case? Since Anchor Bay hasn't held the license for the Cannell library for a few years now, I doubt if they could help you. I'm sure they do not have old packaging laying around for product they no longer sell. Unless you find old copies still sealed floating around ebay or a used marketplace seller, the Anchor Bay titles are OOP.
